During an ordinary visit to the library, a young girl pulls out a not-so-ordinary book from the shelves. As she turns the pages in this book about coral reefs, the city around her slips away, and she finds herself surrounded by the coral cities of the sea and the mysterious plants and animals that live, hunt, and hide there.

This short listen is either a highly abbreviated version of the original work or from a children's picture book rather than a chapter book or standard informative nonfiction book. There is not much here to work with at all as to making a just book review.

I give this piece 2 stars even because this could serve as getting kids interested in this subject matter for the first time. However, this really only touches on the bare minimum, so kids already interested in marine biology wouldn't be learning anything new.

This work lost half a star because of it's short length. It lost 1.5 stars due to inaccuracies--not only does it downplay the burning of fossil fuel's role in the climate change crisis, but there are at least 2 instances of flat out incorrect statements regarding basic coral biology or reef ecology!! Another star gone due to its poor narration: random lists and descriptions of illustrations which obviously would be there in an "audiobook", so this read more like a robotic read-a-long than an audiobook narration.

This nonsense shouldn't have been allowed to be sold on Audible. Stay away.
