Timothy Zahn, Hugo Award-winning author of the New York Times bestselling Star Wars trilogy, blazes a spectacular new path across the sky in an epic original novel of star-spanning action adventure, mystery, and intrigue.

A long era of peace and prosperity in the interstellar Commonwealth has suddenly come to an end. Four alien starships of unknown origin have attacked, without provocation, an eight-ship Peacemaker task force, utterly destroying it in six savage minutes. The authorities claim there were no survivors. But Lord Stewart Cavanaugh, a former member of Parliament, has learned through back channels that one man may have survived to be captured by the aliens: his son, Commander Pheylan Cavanaugh.

A large-scale invasion appears imminent, and the strictest security measures are in effect...measures that Lord Cavanaugh has no choice but to defy. He recruits Adam Quinn, who once flew with the elite Copperheads—fighter pilots whose minds are literally one with their machines—to rescue his son. Quinn assembles a crack force of Copperheads to steal out of the Commonwealth security zone and snatch Pheylan Cavanaugh from the conquerors. Depending on the outcome, Quinn and his men will return home as heroes or as the galaxy's most despised traitors—if they come home at all.

It had politics, daring capers, double bluffs, secrets and lots more interesting things. Not as good as a Thrawn book, but great if you love Battlestar Galctica (new).

Great Space Military

After years and years of waiting for a new recording of this book it is a pleasure to listen to it. Great story. It deserved a new narration.

Great narration of a great story.

The author spends little time moving the story forwarded and a lot on irrelevant details. The narration was one of the worst I have had to endure.

Disappointing

I read the Conquerors' Trilogy when it came out in 1994 - I was a senior in hight school. I've been waiting for the audio versions to show up for a long time, The story is great, but I was supremely disappointed with the narration. I mean nothing personal against the narrator, but I had to concentrate to understand plain english. The reading simply seemed amateur, and after several chapters I returned the audiobook. I'll stick with the written word on this series I suppose. Highly recommend this masterpiece of a trilogy by Tiim Zahn if you can get past the narration.

Great Story, Disappointing Narration

I have loved this story since I was a kid. Over the years I've thought about it a lot, even as the books fell out of print and the series seemed forgotten. I even met Mr. Zahn at a convention meet and greet some years ago, and had him sign my worn out copy. He was pleased that it meant so much to me, and I asked him if the series would ever see a modern audiobook release (there had been books on tape cassettes in the 90's). He shrugged and said he'd like that, but it didn't seem likely and wasn't up to him.

So imagine my glee when this showed up on my radar. I immediately pre-ordered all three books before the first one released. Unfortunately, my heart sank when I heard the narration. It was astonishing in the worst way possible. The weird infections, the cringe-inducing goofy voices, the unnatural way of speaking that would be laughed off the stage in a 4th grade stage play. I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks, and suffered through subpar narration of books I liked far less than this one. But listening to this was an act of love, like listening to your kid blast out atonal 8th Amendment violations on the saxophone until your ears bleed, because you don't want to discourage his interest in music. And yes, that is a very specific example for a reason, and I barely survived.

Point is, the story of this trilogy is a great yarn, more people should read it. If you can stand this narration, you'll enjoy the story. But as much as I love the story, I could barely finish the book and probably won't listen to the others. YMMV

The narration is an act of vandalism
