Heaven has many rules for angels to follow, but one comes above all others. Angels and demons cannot fall in love.

Micah

I’ve been alive for millennia and have yet to meet my fated mate. It’s not something I’ve ever cared about; my heart already belongs to another. Someone I can’t have. Someone who doesn’t want me.

Now I know we’ll never be together. Unlike me, he’s found his fated mates. Two of them.

That’s fine. As leader of the Seraphim, Heaven’s most elite unit of angels, I don’t have time for love.

Apparently fate has other ideas.Meeting my mate on a battlefield outside Hell is surprising, to say the least. When you add in his uncanny resemblance to the man who broke my heart, it’s safe to say I’m far from pleased.

The fact that he’s a demon, my natural born enemy, is just icing on the cake of this is never going to happen. It’s a good thing I haven’t been banking on meeting my mate and living happily ever after, because there’s no way it’s happening with Nox.

It’s not like Nox wants me either. He hates me with a ferocity I’ve come to expect from his kind. The two of us never being together is the only thing we can agree on.Still, there’s a pull between us that neither of us can ignore, no matter how much I wish we could. What starts out as hate sex, a way to try and burn off the intensity between us, quickly blossoms into something more. Something dangerous.

Something forbidden. Conflicted is an exciting enemies to lovers, angel x demon, MM PNR romance. The first in the Hopeless Blessed series, each book will follow a different couple. All can be listened to as standalone titles.

This isn’t a genre I normally listen to, but I really enjoyed it. It held my attention the whole way through. The characters and their found families were all very likable and I loved their bonds and wha they were willing to do for each other. There was a bit of repetitiveness in the beginning of the MC’s relationship with not trusting that the other truly wanted to be with them. Overall it was great. It will definitely go in my “read again” folder.

Kept my attention

Conflicted is the first book in the Hopeless Blessed series, and ‘conflicted’ is the exactly right title for this book. Drawing on both characters and the theme of fated mates in her previous series wherein humans, demons, and angels find one another despite Heaven and Hell’s rules against such matings. In Conflicted Lark Taylor brings the most powerful arch angel, Micah, together with a high-ranking demon, Nox. Micah is not only the strongest angel and leader of the Seraphim (Heaven’s most powerful protection agents) but he is tightly bound by his own belief that he must not break any rules and if rules are broken, he must take all punishments to protect his Seraphim brothers-in-arms from having to suffer any punishment. His stubborn sense of morality has put him in physical jeopardy from a sadistic angel assigned to punish the Seraphim leader's decisions. Micah has secretly yearned for a romantic relationship with Dimitri, now a ‘fallen’ angel who chose love for his fated mates over duty to Heaven. So, Micah is burdened with heartbreak and an inflated sense of duty. Thus, Micah is deeply conflicted when a demon, Nox, turns out to be his fated mate! So much inner turmoil, angst, and suppressed feelings are between these two that it’s a huge relief when they finally confess their true hearts to one another. These two are star-crossed lovers though. The ruling council of angels decides to punish Micah in the cruelest fashion imaginable. It takes everything Micah and Nox have along with the help of fellow angels and demons to survive such inflicted cruelty. I recommend reading/listening to her other two series before The Hopeless Blessed books because there’s a lot of history and overlapping story which will lend itself to greater enjoyment of the struggle Micah and Nox experience when they find themselves to be fated mates despite being on opposite sides of Heaven and Hell, and the teamwork that eventually saves their lives.
I really like Lark Taylor's decision to portray the ruling council of angels as hypocritical. It's rather like the hypocrisy of Christians who profess to follow God but enable corruption and disregard of our neediest humans.
Dan Calley performs admirably as the sole narrative voice actor in Conflicted. I do miss Calley’s duo narration with Joel Leslie in the previous two series.

So much Internal Conflict in This Story!

Not as angsty as the previous series. Well written story, interesting characters that leave you wanting more of the secondary characters.
