Story
An expert, story-driven account of how Coinbase won the cryptocurrency game and set itself up to lead the future of banking and blockchain-based trading. This is the story of the people who made Coinbase, per PitchBook, “one of the most valuable startups in the US,” including the stoic, preppy founder and CEO Brian Armstrong and the bitcoin-obsessed former lumberjack Olaf Carlson-Wee, who turned their backs on the first generation of wild-eyed Bitcoin prophets to build something more profound and practical.

Story
The story of Ethereum begins with Vitalik Buterin, a supremely gifted 19-year-old autodidact who saw the promise of blockchain when the technology was in its earliest stages. He convinced a crack group of coders to join him in his quest to make a super-charged, global computer. The Infinite Machine introduces Vitalik’s ingenious idea and unfolds Ethereum’s chaotic beginnings. It then explores the brilliant innovation and reckless greed the platform has unleashed and the consequences that resulted as the frenzy surrounding it grew.

Publisher's summary
"Epic. The first great book about crypto." (Andrew Keys, Managing Partner, DARMA Capital)
"A highly dramatic but lucid introduction to the murky world of
cryptocurrency." (Kirkus Reviews)
At the start of this riveting memoir, Dan Conway is a brash young executive in a vast corporation, slogging his way up the ladder while struggling with depression and an addiction he thought he had defeated long ago. As he begins to realize that the mix of nightmarish bureaucracy and his unruly “flip side” have doomed any chance of success, Dan stumbles upon cryptocurrency, tumbling down the rabbit hole to discover a strange, anarchic, but captivating world. He decides to wager everything - his savings, his marriage, his family, his future - on the fledgling crypto, Ether.
In Confessions of a Crypto Millionaire, listeners join Dan on this rollicking, harrowing, frequently hilarious journey, including his:
- Struggle to rise through the corporate ranks
- Battle with addiction and its aftermath
- Bid to reinvent himself
- Efforts to hold his marriage and family together
- And the costs - and thrills - of risking it all.
“For Conway, crypto was only partly about the money. It was also about finding liberation and salvation.” (Forbes)
Dan details in a non-technical and non-preachy way how the idea of blockchain-based decentralization has convinced a generation of dreamers, misfits, and gamblers to too often bet more than they can afford to lose. He illustrates how public blockchains like Ethereum could disrupt the nature of work itself in the coming years, upending stultifying centralized corporations in favor of “trust machines” and peer-to-peer cooperation. In the process, listeners take a thrilling ride with Conway on a turbocharged adventure through crypto, not knowing if he will make history or lose everything he holds dear.

Personal story mixed with 1 lucky investment
Summary:
1. Suffered from addiction and low self esteem
2. Tripped over etherium and ETH coin
3. Inherited $100k
4. Obsessed over ETH
5. Bought an insanely irresponsible amount of ETH around $11, including using home equity
6. Checked price a billion times and wrote about it
7. Got insanely lucky when the ETH rocket took off
8. Sold (partially forced by family/advisor) and made millions
8. Overcame addiction and low self esteem
Overall an OK personal story. Excellent narration.
Zero technical detail. Very little explanation of how crypto works. A story of an insanely risky buy at the right time that ended up making a ton of money. And a ton of self-congratulation.

Riveting page turner
I could not put this book down and read it in one day, which I normally do not do. I found it riveting, relating to several of the author’s experiences, in particular large corporations and how they operate in keeping employee’s pigeon holed and in their place, playing political gamesmanship for survival.
I have been trying to understand the nuances, workings and fundamentals of blockchain and cryptocurrencies and found Daniel’s explanations to be succinct and to the point.
The book is well written: funny, introspective at the same time - I also listened to the audio, after reading the book, which is well narrated by the author.

Necessary, but vulgar?
My only negative comment about Dan's book is his use of profanity. I don't think that it's necessary. While said profanity may describe and emphasize where he's coming from, it just isn't the best way to communicate such. It's a shortcut device that may turn people away. Those who do stay are rewarded with some wisdom herein.. This is a worthwhile investment of your time, assuming that a little profanity doesn't upset you. I accepted his use of profanity at the start. If you're reading this, you have been warned.

An honest account of personal wealth transformation
4 of 5 stars.
Dan Conway’s account of the drudgery of corporate life and self-sabotage combined with his self-aware, honest portrayal of personal shortcomings make for a relatable read with a happy ending.
Afflicted with an alter personality that has a life long tendency to self-sabotage, the ultimate irony is this destructive aspect to Conway’s personality possesses the qualities which drive him to take the risks that lead to financial independence. Conway honestly describes himself at his worst, often unlikeable moments, when making bad and good choices that are relatable.
Though the title includes “Crypto”, this could easily describe any other get-rich obsession. This is an absorbing journey for those who want to understand the emotional highs and lows that accompany rapid wealth transformation (gain & loss) and the desire to risk everything to escape the BS politics and soul crushing aspects of the corporate world.
The performance is solid.

Read this before the next bull run
This book exposes an intersection in one man's personal life, professional life, and the most transformative technology this world has faced since the industrial revolution - the Ethereum blockchain. Dan Conway's quest for a decentralized life is validated by Vitalik Buterin's vision for Ethereum and once Dan makes this connection, the religious rabbit hole experience begins to play out, like it has, and will, for many other early adopters in the blockchain world. I listened to the audio book and put my life on-hold from the time I started through to the last chapter. An outstanding read, possibly my favorite ever.

An Insightful View of Using One's Demons for Good
Dan gives us an intriguing view of the volatility of life as a crypto believer. His battles against his inner 'flipside' were conquered with resolve to create lasting wealth for his family.
The wild west of crypto is a melting pot of forces for good and evil. Navigating the environment is stressful and time consuming, but most of all chalk full of nearly unlimited, world changing potential. Dan's story will motivate people to find their inner conviction and take immediate and disciplined action for self-improvement.

One of the best books written by a self made millionaire
I loved this book! The heroes journey is perfect. Dan Conway is honest, brave, broken and imperfect and his story is even better for it. I’ve read a zillion business and “how I made a fortune” books and this one is my favourite. The lessons to learn from the author are all attainable but the real question is even with the knowledge he provides would you have made the same decisions he made at the time? Most books of this genre teach you that success and wealth come from applying yourself consistently and methodically until the results manifest themselves from incremental improvements. This book said the opposite. If you could borrow a million dollars of debt would you put it all on black at the casino so you could make a million dollars? Most sane people wouldn’t. Dan Conway did.

Nonsensical
I disliked the whole context of this book. Boring and mundane.
I would not recommend this book to anyone as this comes across as someone who is self centered and lost...
Why the rating actually I would give it ZERO rating if that was possible. Well this is the closest to ZERO rating.

not very good value for money but can say it was
interesting ->
Basically the story is about how a guy got lucky. First getting a huge payout from the company he worked for and then putting it into Ether towards the beginning of the greatest giant ponzi scheme in human history. The fact that he cashes out to the USD essentially means it is fundamentally a useless asset. These decentralised tokens like Bitcoin Ether etc are supposed to REPLACE the USD. So if it is meant to REPLACE the USD then no one should convert it to the USD ever. The fact that everyone is just in it for the ride eventually with the objective to convert to USD after making a profit as more suckers come to support the price for the earlier people to cash out, means that it is not doing what is supposed to do. Also I had always suspected there were people who were marketing it, basically it is just a giant marketing of a ponzi scheme similar to other schemes in the past. At least now I have some insights from the man himself on how the marketing was done.

Unbelievable story
This book definitely doesn’t teach you how to trade or vastly improve your life but the story is so gripping it constantly has you wanting to keep going, this has to be the best audio book I’ve listened to so far and couldn’t recommend it more to anyone with the slightest interest in cryptocurrency. The story is super intriguing and is constantly exciting while also teaching you a thing or two. It makes you review yourself in a way that motivates you to do better and also be careful along the way
10/10 100%

Story
In 2004 Philip Delves Broughton abandoned a post as Paris bureau chief of the London Daily Telegraph to join 900 other would-be tycoons on the Harvard Business School's plush campus. With acute and often uproarious candor, he assesses the school's success at teaching the traits it extols as most important in business: leadership, decisiveness, ethical behavior, and work/life balance.
