Publisher's summary

Forensic accountant Maggie Martin survives the sudden death of her husband, the charismatic President of Windsor College, only to uncover the secrets of his carefully-concealed double life. Dealing with the financial and emotional wreckage left in Paul's wake, she is stunned to learn he inherited an estate known as Rosemont in the seemingly serene Midwestern town of Westbury. Why had he never told her?

Maggie travels to Westbury for the stated purpose of listing Rosemont for immediate sale, but what she really seeks are answers to her all-consuming questions about her sham of a marriage, her sham of a life. She never anticipated the seductive charm of Rosemont. Throwing her trademark caution to the wind, and over the objections of her opinionated grown children, she pulls up stakes and moves halfway across the country, determined to make a fresh start in Westbury. Behind closed doors, however, lurks a cadre of evildoers, playing with multiple wild cards of fraud, embezzlement and arson. With a quiet, orderly - and distinctively solitary - life in mind, Maggie is instead thrown headlong into a crusade against political corruption, where defeat and retreat are not an option. Still bearing the scars of betrayal, will she find joy, romance and possibility in Westbury?

This fast-paced, smart novel has enough twists and turns to make the listener want to buckle in!

Love Maggie

What a strong and determined woman! I love the diversity and inclusion in the book too! There's something about small town charm and friendliness...everyone works together and looks out for one another.

storyline is decent but audio not

The story line and performance were decent. The audio was very tin sounding and was not pleasant to listen to.

Great story!

What a way to go! Very engaging story. Good pace by the performer. While at a good pace, wish the characters were more distinct. Interesting place to stop in the story.

Great story

Narrator seemed awkward at times, like she was reading the story for the first time with regard to inflection and delivery.

Story with potential but too bland

To start I must address the performance. Recording sounded as if it was recorded in a bathroom, bad dull echo immediately turned me off. The story on the other hand had a great potential, there were dragging parts but I would have been even better if author took more time better describing Rosemont. Otherwise I give solid 3 stars.

Recording is harsh

I enjoyed the light hearted story but the audio sounds awful, like in a cave.

Story was great, the recording not so much.

The narration was ‘tinny’ sounding. The story was good but the recording was difficult to listen to.

Exhilarating!

This is my first time reading this series. What a delight. The descriptions that Barbara paints with words leaves little to wonder about. She transports you with her wit and attention to detail. Can hardly wait to read the next book in the series.

HALLMARK TOWN

Story very engaging enhanced by wonderful narrator. During these trying times it was nice to read about such kind people in this almost idyllic town. Ending a little too abrupt.

The storyline was a little weak and left you wandering many things.

There were a lot of useless descriptions of food flowers etc. instead of getting to a good story.
