Story
Detective Jake Daggers likes his murder investigations the way he likes his women - straightforward, easy, and with a killer body. So when his older-than-dust partner throws his back out on a goblin raid, his captain assigns him a new running mate - a sexy young half-elf by the name of Shay Steele. It seems like a match made in Daggers' imagination, but Steele's no pushover. She's a powerful forensic psychic, and she's got sass oozing out of her boots. In a debut case teeming with fire mages, foundries, and a dead guy who's crispier than bacon, it's pretty clear Daggers isn't the only one getting a heaping helping of RED HOT STEELE.

Story
Nate Temple's all-consuming quest to avenge his parents is temporarily put on hold when shape-shifting dragons invade St. Louis. And perhaps cow-tipping the Minotaur for answers might not have been Nate's smartest opening move, because now every flavor of supernatural thug from our childhood nightmares is gunning for him. Nate learns that the only way to save his city from these creatures is to murder his best friend.

Broke, almost homeless, and recently fired. Those are my official reasons for answering a wanted ad for a skeevy-looking bartender gig. It went downhill the moment they asked me to do a trial shift instead of an interview - to see if I'd mesh with their "special" clientele. I think that part went great. Their customers were complete dickheads, and I was an asshole right back. That's the definition of fitting in, right? I expected to get thrown out on my ass. Instead, they...offered me the job? It turns out this place isn't a bar. It's a guild.

Story
When he was 19, James Stark was considered to be one of the greatest natural magicians, a reputation that got him demon-snatched and sent downtown - to Hell - where he survived as a gladiator, a sideshow freak entertaining Satan's fallen angels. That was 11 years ago. Now, the hitman who goes only by Stark has escaped and is back in L.A. Armed with a fortune-telling coin, a black bone knife, and an infernal key, Stark is determined to destroy the magic circle.

Story
With magic, nothing's impossible. Everyone knew it was impossible for men to do magic, until it happened. Conryu Koda is a young man of modest ambition. All he wants is to work on bikes and practice Kung Fu. His modest dreams die on the day of The Testing when it's revealed he has wizard potential. When the Department of Magic announces that a male wizard has been found it draws the attention of the Le Fay Society, a radical group of wizards that view men as little better than animals and Conryu as an abomination.

Alex is dead. Dead and apparently with a one-way ticket to a place that only the worst of the worst go. All for a simple choice he made about a product his company owned. Damned for all time. Luckily for him, he’s about to be given a chance. Another choice to make. He can instead return to the land of the living, though his soul would belong to another. Except the world he’s being sent to isn’t the same one he came from. It’s not even a similar period in time, but from something long past in history. The dark ages.

The Boss has a mission for him, and he's to look for a sign. He's a marine: He'll choose the mission. Unfortunately, the sign he's to look for is "57". Which, given the food services contract in Bethesda Hospital, creates some difficulty. Eventually it appears that God's will is for Chad to join a group called Monster Hunters International.

Great fun snarky, witty, fantasy mystery
Where does Cold Hard Steele rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
love it, near the top!
What was one of the most memorable moments of Cold Hard Steele?
Cold Hard Steele (Daggers & Steele #2) by Alex P. Berg is a book you could read without reading the first book and not get lost. I liked this one even better than the first and I loved the first book. I also listened to the audio version with this one. I love the snarky, witty, clever dialogue or behaviors between the characters. The mystery is very good too but the craziness between the players is so funny. I smile a lot in these books! I really enjoy them and can't wait to read more!

If you enjoyed the first you'll love this.
This book was right up my alley. It's a good blend of light hearted pulp detective books and urban fantasy for fans of both genres. A fun read that left me waiting for the next book.
