In the remote, rugged corner of Montana’s Glacier National Park known as the Devil’s Grasp, little Paige Baker of San Francisco disappears with her dog, Kobee, while on a camping trip with her family; or so her mother and father have told authorities. A multiagency task force launches a massive search as Paige fights to survive in the wilderness. Time hammers against her, and soon the nation is gripped by the life-and-death drama. Secretly, behind the scenes, the FBI grows suspicious of Paige’s parents. Their recent history and disturbing evidence links them to a horrible secret from the past.

I loved the nonstop action and excitement with many twists and turns. It got so I just wanted to sit and listen and do nothing. Finally I blue toothed my iPhone to my tap and tied my tap to my waist so every word was clear and nothing missed. Great for all ages and excitement without sex and constant swearing. Have bought 5 more of his books and am currently really enjoying "Vengeance Road" playing on my tap tied to my waist and managing to get things done around my home.

The author has a way of making you not wanting to put the book down. There are many turns and twist with the plot. The author shows hope the law enforcement people will mess with your head to get what they want. That is until they realize they are wrong and you are right.
The narrator's did a fine job of bringing the book to life.
You will not go wrong reading this mystery. thriller.

This book was an excellent mystery with edge of your seat action throughout 95% of the story. The author kept the suspense going with who was really the killer. The 5% of dud for me was the story line late in the book about Isaac Hood. It was so unrealistic that I considered stopping the book right then and just assume my own ending. I did keep going forward, however, and am glad I did. By ignoring Hood's antics during this, the book's final chapters kept me intrigued. The ending was somewhat far-fetched, but the intensity of the rest of the book made this one very enjoyable.

Other than the story itself, the performance of the audio reading left much to be desired. The acting was great except during times of high emotion, such as screaming from fear, fighting and arguing with others, begging to have one's life spared, etc. The narrators just were not able to act in these situations. The book would have been better if a narrator would have simply read the book and not had different voices and acting only to be let down by performance during the height of emotion within the story.

I recommend this book as it's story telling is able to capture your attention, makes your heart race, and leads you to several intense moments.

I listened to the first half of this book intently. However the second half just yammered on and on. Quite predictable ending. I have read many Rick Mofina. Books, great crime writer. And Christian Rummel is a favorite narrator of mine . His women's voices all sound like cross dressers though. The book should be much shorter, as my review should be. In my opinion not worth the money or the time .

Good plot .. too long

My first Rick Mofina book and I’m deeply impressed – complex story, lots of mysteries which slowly unravel, interesting characters, moral and emotional explorations.

The author actually does something I can’t remember ever seeing before. He tackles how misleading appearances can be. How the little white lies that are automatic and defensive, can result in appearances which are damning. How misconceptions and personal experience colour our assumptions. How things taken in the wrong context can create completely false interpretations. How all of these things can combine to create an avoidable tragedy. I’ve never seen perception handled so deftly before and it’s impressive. This is an insightful look at human nature.

One odd thing – this series is literally called ‘Tom Reed and Walt Sydowski’ – Sydowski isn’t in it for more than maybe five minutes, and Tom Reed is a completely irresponsible jerk. He destroys a woman’s life, based mostly on hearsay and insinuations, and takes zero responsibility for it. They’re both technically in it but they’re not exactly central to the plot, which was a surprise. Sydowski seems nice and I’d like to read more about him, but Reed is a cockroach.

If I have one complaint, and it’s very minor, the epilogue could have been fleshed out more. It’s very short and I feel like there were several things that needed addressing, just for closure’s sake. It’s all just a bit too neat and tidy. It felt like there should have been consequences for certain parties involved, which just isn’t even mentioned at all. I’d be more explicit but anything I would say is spoilery.

The reader was fantastic – did a great job with voices and accents, even the women.

Very impressed. I will definitely be reading his other books, this was excellent from start to finish.
