Publisher's summary

A relentless FBI profiler hunts a vicious killer.

When old evidence turns up on a fresh corpse, ASAC Lincoln Frazer is determined it won't delay the execution of a convicted serial killer. But when more young women are brutally slain, it becomes clear - this new killer is intimately familiar with the old murders.

A dedicated emergency physician hides a dark secret.

Former Army Captain Dr. Isadora Campbell helped her mother conceal a terrible crime. After her mother's death, Izzy resigned her commission and returned to the Outer Banks to raise her rebellious teenage sister. But it doesn't take long for Izzy to suspect that someone knows exactly what she did, all those years ago.

If they work together, maybe no one else will die.

With pressure mounting to reopen the old case, Frazer will use any means possible to catch the killer. Thrust together during the investigation, he and Izzy find themselves reluctantly attracted to one another, and begin an affair. Meanwhile, the killer is much closer than they think. Izzy's confession of her secret drives Frazer away as he struggles with her deception. By the time he realizes he's fallen in love with the stubborn woman, the killer has her. Now the race is on to save Izzy and any chance of a future they might have together.

Another great installment

A first I wasn't sure I was interested in a story with ASAC Frazer but once it started I was hooked. Frazer wore his mask well but Izzy was able to get behind it and see the real man. ASAC Frazer is a sexy little beast...lol. He had control in everything he did even when things were out of his control.

I loved Izzy. She was a strong character but I was a bit disappointed that we didn't see that strength when it came to protecting herself. We were told she was capable, we felt she was capable but when it came down to it she needed a man's help.

Kit was an annoying little shit but i'll chalk that up to her being a 17yr old who thinks she knows everything and is owed anything she wants.

Overall I enjoyed the story and the writing. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time I was listening. This was a great installment in the series. I started the series at book 2 with each passing book i'm more and more determined to swing back to book 1. The tidbits dropped about Parker and Rooney make me believe that their story was an explosive start to a great series.

story 3.5
Narrator 4

Eric Dove is an amazing narrator and I actively search out his work in the romance genre.

A serial killer in the OBX

ASAC Lincoln Frazier always comes across as perfect. Can he change when he meets the alluring Dr. Isadora Campbell? Izzy has a huge secret from her past...can a relationship survive that secret? Then there’s the serial killer that is abducting and killing women...similar MO to the convicted killer that is about to face execution. Is this a copy cat or the real killer?
Another nail biter! This author is excellent at hiding the identity of the killer...you never see him/her coming.

An outstanding killer suspense

What did you like about this audiobook?

The suspense, narration, keeping me guessing and on the edge

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

I have always been interested in serial killers for so many reason. This story brought it more to life for me.

Does the author present information in a way that is interesting and insightful, and if so, how does he achieve this?

by keeping you guessing to who the killer is, keeping you on the edge and not wanting to put the book down. This was a highly entertaining listen that makes you heart beat faster.

What did you find wrong about the narrator's performance?

Nothing I felt he does an outstanding job pulling the reader in and holding their attention why he entertains them.

Do you have any additional comments?

This author has always been able to pull me in, keep me guessing as she entertaining me to no end. Between the author and narrator this was a hard to put down I wanted to know how it ended. Serial killers have always got my attention this is the next best thing to a true read. Trying to understand the who and why is mind blowing. Ms. Anderson pulls you in with her very talented mind as the narrator hooks you with his smooth voice painting a story of mystery and death leaving you second guessing who the killer or killers are. Just when you think you have it worked out and you say that is just to easy no way...the author talks you into believing what she has setup for you only to find your first thought was true. It was to easy and you might need to do a little more looking. I can honestly say I never saw that coming, would have never guessed it.

The narrator as always did a wonderful outstanding job. There are not any breaks that you can tell just a smooth rich voice plotting the story the author wrote. He hits all the correct tones pulling you in making you believe what is going on. He has wonderful character voice, you have no trouble knowing who and what sex they are. There are no background noises just a smooth reach narration that will keeping you hanging on not wanting to put this book down. I have loved Eric G. Dove from the first book I have ever listened to that he narrated. I always look forward to his narration. He has narrated a few of Ms. Anderson books which I have loved. I always get excited when I see his name and know I am going to totally love the book.

Frazer has always been one of my favorite characters throughout this series. He is strong, alpha, will a wonderful attitude. He is a tough cop who doesn't give up easy and always gets his person. It was nice to see him get his own story. He does however need to deal with his past as the author brings more of it to life in this read you come to understanding him better. Not only does he have his handful with Izzy along with the killer and some teens that are working through their own issues. This is one cop that toes the line all but one time. Even years later he is still dealing with this which will get in his way with Izzy and her secret. Ones past has a way of coming back to bite you on your butt as he will find out when all of Izzy past comes back to haunt her. He is going to have to decide if love can out weather the fall out when the past comes knocking.

Izzy has been haunted by her past and it is about to come back in a big way. She walked away years ago but with her mother dying she must come home to help take care of her sister. Teens can be so trying on their best days but her sister is hell-bent on making bad decision. Getting even with the popular girls will be her down fall in many ways the bigs is losing her best friend. As Izzy does her best to help her sister through some very trying times she must also face her past while trying to find out who the killer is and why they have come back after all these years. Danger is all around is there no stopping this killer? What about her new founded relationship with Frazer will he still want her when he finds out her secret?

I was drawn to Ms. Anderson's book from the very first book. She deliveries a bang from the first page that pulls you in and holds you throughout the read. Her stories are very believable with all that is going on in the world it isn't hard to believe this could or has really happened. This series revolves around states and place I know well which is an added bonus for me. This is one author that has done her research well knowing the places this series takes place it is easy for me to know she given great thought to the plot and the place she has built it around. She always keeps you guessing as to who the killer is. You must look deep and give much thought before you can pick him out. I have to say I am always surprised when he is revealed never guessing to who it is. Ms. Anderson is another of my go to authors when I want thrills, adventure and excitement she never lets me down. The sex is hot as two people find their way and could be torn apart when things come out. There are some very heated scenes that will give you hot flashes. She has picked a narrator that goes well with this series. Between the two they make the perfect match to bring you all you come to expect. This book was a little more intents and graphic than most of her stories. It will shock you and keep you turning the pages. I am so looking forward to the next book I can hardly wait. I know it will be as thrilling and exciting as this one has been. If you haven't read anything by this author I highly recommend you do. All of her books have been outstanding but this series has been the best so far. Read this one as a standalone but if you want the full impact of the characters you do not want to miss one book in this series.

A killer suspense

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes I would recommend this audio. From the excellent writing to the marvellous narration, this romantic suspense will keep you enthralled.

What other book might you compare Cold Fear to and why?

This the fourth book in Toni Anderson's Cold Justice Series, and they keep getting better.

What does Eric G. Dove bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

His wonderful narration brings to life Toni Anderson's characters. His voice carries you along at an exciting pace.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The story was so suspenseful and action packed that I found myself shouting at the characters and second guessing who was the killer

Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the emotional build up to the romantic interaction between the hero Lincoln and the heroine Izzy. Once again Toni Anderson adds another suspenseful twist to a murderously action packed story.

Awesome read..

Any additional comments?

I liked the storyline, although it was murderously gross. And I’d just as soon we didn’t get to know Jesse and Helena before Helena was murdered. I mean, she was described as sweet and kind and loving, so it kind of stunk that you saw that before she was killed, then heard about it from everyone else after she died. I’d rather think about her being a total stranger who’d been killed.

And, I absolutely did not like Kit. That’s one horrible thing about teenagers being in books, authors think they have to make them into complete jerks. They do that in historicals, too. There is nothing worse than a teen in any kind of book, because you know you’re going to start out hating them and even if they do turn around it’s going to be too late to change your mind.

I did like Frazer, and have been anxiously waiting his book. I like Izzy, too. I thought, since she was a Captain in the Army and had been to Afghanistan that she’d show more “umph” but she didn’t. She may have well just been a doctor since she didn’t show any kick-ass attitude. BUT that was OK because you couldn’t help be like her.

There was some murder, mayhem, conspiracy, a lot of falling in love, some real sexual tension and some great sex. AND there was next to no angst, which made the book extra good, considering it was 428 pages.

I do hope Lucas Randall’s story is next.

As to the narration: Eric Dove was just wonderful. He gets better and better with the women's voices and the heroes alway sound so sexy.

A pulse-pounding suspenseful murder mystery!

“She’d do whatever he wanted to save her dog or her sister.”

Cold Fear by Toni Anderson is a suspenseful murder mystery set on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It’s the fourth installment in the author’s Cold Justice series and my first Toni Anderson book. It’s primarily a pulse-pounding whodunit thriller with the romantic element secondary. The story kept me on the edge of my seat throughout hoping that the killer would be found quickly while dreading another victim.

I’m not going to bore you with a description as you can derive that from the book’s blurb. The opening scene is quite emotional and very sad. The story is told from multiple points of view including that of the killer. The killer’s thought processes are deeply disturbing and brutal multiplying the horror aspect of the tale.

ASAC Lincoln Frazer and former Army Captain Dr. Isadora “Izzy” Campbell are the main featured characters. They are well-written and developed as being likable, driven, efficient, genuine and smart. However, I had issues with both. Without going into specifics, Izzy withholds critical evidence that wastes days of valuable law enforcement time while women are horribly dropping like flies. In her defense, she committed the initial atrocious deed while she was a minor and under extreme duress. But, her whys and wherefores for withholding the information are rehashed over and over which makes those parts of the story drag. Izzy should have disclosed the information long before now, but she holds back the info now because she fears repercussions. I had a hard time digesting this seeing how Izzy is a doctor and privy first-hand to the horrors being perpetrated.

To be fair, I also found the hero’s reaction to Izzy’s confession to be deplorable. He was the opposite of supportive while she was obviously experiencing such trauma reliving her childhood experience. I’m obviously in the minority with this opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt.

Other than the above issues, I liked the characters and the story. The chemistry between Frazer and Izzy was great and their few sex scenes were well done.

I listened to the audio edition. It marked my first time listening to anything voiced by Eric G. Dove. He did a very good job with the narration. His voice was smooth, easy on the ears and clearly and purposefully articulated. The end product was polished and professional. I would not hesitate to pick up another of his works based upon this narration.

I jumped into this series with this installment – which is the fourth in the series. The story seemed to work well as a standalone. Overall, I enjoyed this book and never considered not finishing it. The identity of the murderer remained elusive until the surprising twist of an ending. The story was extremely emotional and riveting. That said, I read to escape and prefer my mode of entertainment to include a bit more romance and less descriptive, too-real, hard-core violence. If you fancy heart-pounding fear, chills and fright with your thrillers, this action-packed read could be your nirvana.

AMAZING SERIES EXCELLENT NARRATION

This is such a great series! And the narration was fantastic!

I really have enjoyed all these books this is the 4th book in this series and I

This is one of the best romance suspense series ever! Okay, so I loved Frazer the hero, he is in charge of the BAU/FBI. He is strong, handsome, smart and doesn't want to fall in love at all! Well, he meets our herione, Izzy and he is done for, LOL. She is great too, smart, sassy and beautiful. These two made such a great couple. They had some great chemistry and there is a couple of really well written sex scenes, not erotica.

The story line and plot is great. A serial killer spree that has been going on for years. And I will say this serial killer is bad, very bad and very brutal. It was disturbing, but so very well written. I don't want to give spoilers, just know this was like watching an episode criminal minds, with a little romance thrown in.

If you haven't read this series I highly recommend it! Wonderful characters and stories. All of them. Not one of these books has been a disappointment.

Eric Dove did a fantastic job on the narration! He always does. The women sound like women, the hero sounds sexy and his reading voice is just great, he always reads with emotion as called for. Love him!

I loved it!

This book was wonderful! I love it when I don't have the killer figured out. I thought the narrator did a great job with his performance and added to the suspense. Romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres to listen. I will definitely be listening to more books by this author and narrator.

Another great book in this series

A realistic romance mixed with a murder mystery that had me guessing right up to the last chapter. The couple in this book are not perfect, they make mistakes and they mess things up. Toni Anderson has pretty much nailed the romantic suspense genre with this book. Excellent plot development, action which moves along at a decent pace, intertwined by a developing romance that is neither simple nor smooth going. We get the POV of several characters, including the murder victim in the first chapter which makes for a chilling, but absorbing beginning to the story. This is part of a series of books, but can easily be read as a standalone.

An Excellent Instalement

I do love a good suspense series, and this one of them. It seems all agents are finding the love of their lives. The most emphasis is put on solving crimes, and the agents in this case are chasing a serial killer operating in the style a murderer seating on death row, and he is only weeks away from death.
FBI agent Frazier is determined to make sure the serial killer sitting on Death Row doesn’t gets away it, all because we have copycat operating in this area. Former Army Captain Dr Isadora Campbell is on the beach a young woman is found dead on the sand dunes where she was walking her dog.
I loved the complexity of the plot. I changed my mind two or three times about who the murderer was and I still got it wrong.
The character development was also very strong and this is true for the side characters as well. There was an emotional depth to this thriller which I find is often missing from the mass produced romantic suspense titles saturating the market. I can’t wait to listen to the rest of the series.
I have to say that I found the first few chapters quite sad and emotional. Rape is a sensitive and difficult topic to write about and when it involves the murder of a young girl you can’t help but feel shocked and saddened. The friends’ and parents’ grief was almost tangible in these opening chapters.
I have listened to many of Eric G. Dove’s other performances and have always enjoyed listening to him but, he did an amazing job with this one and I’ve seen saw his name on plenty of titles in different genres after listening to this one I think it would help persuade me to buy it.
