Publisher's summary

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a short-term, goal-oriented psychotherapy treatment that takes a hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving. Its goal is to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind people’s difficulties, and so change the way they feel. It is used to help treat a wide range of issues in a person’s life, from sleeping difficulties or relationship problems, to drug and alcohol abuse, or anxiety and depression. CBT works by changing people’s attitudes and their behavior by focusing on the thoughts, images, beliefs and attitudes that are held (a person’s cognitive processes) and how these processes relate to the way a person behaves, as a way of dealing with emotional problems.

do not buy the audiobook

this audiobook was very obviously fun through some sort of translator and read by some program voice. the translated audio is jarring and inconsistent. "fortune telling " in chapter 5 was translated as "lots of money telling" and later"pick yourself up" was "choose yourself up."

The ratings here are manufactured

If you go to the Amazon listing for the print version, you’ll see only one review on it (spoiler: it’s a really bad review). That’s how awful and unimportant this book is. The worst part is that the narrated version is so poorly voice-acted but the reviews say it’s almost 5 star worthy, and yet all the written reviews are clear about how ill-advised it is to buy this book or give it any attention. I don’t see how a book can be given high marks by almost 300 people and not a single one of those people cares to elaborate. Please don’t waste your time or money or attention on this book. The only reason I didn’t ask for my credit back was so I could warn people about how terrible it is. I could’ve gotten a book that would’ve changed my life but instead I’m writing this review :(

Playing Fast and Loose with a Thesaurus

Oh dear! The narrators are dreadful (but have discovered a cure for insomnia), and apparently the first one was fired or quit after a chapter or two. If you are prepared to translate while you are listening, you can glean some knowledge about CBT.
What I think happened is that this book was written in another language and then translated by someone word for word whose first language is not English. There are many instances in nearly every sentence of a synonym incorrectly substituted for a common word. To grasp the idea, you will need to guess what the original word should have been. Diction, word choice, is crucial to understanding and flow. These wrong words are like loose bricks in a well- planned walkway. It's so unfair that the author's useful ideas and examples have been destroyed by poor or non-existent editing.
