Publisher's Summary

A completely gripping psychological thriller

I pinch the screen to zoom until I’m staring at the face of a ghost. A man with very short hair, staring directly at the camera with piercing brown eyes.

He is as he was when I last saw him: wrinkles around the corners of the eyes and a knowing smirk. That’s the expression I see when I can’t sleep.

My body tenses. It can’t be him. It’s not my ex-husband. It’s not David.

I know that better than anyone because he didn’t walk out on me.

He didn’t disappear two years ago and he’s not a missing person.

I know that for a fact because I’m the one who killed him.

A brilliantly twisty thriller which will have fans of The Girl on the Train and Gone Girl absolutely gripped.

Ugh, why did she have to mention Trump?

I was enjoying this book until she just had to get a dig on President Trump. I'm so sick of hearing about the election and Trump's impeachment that I've pretty much stopped watching the news. I definitely wasn't expecting it in this book and now I'm exchanging it.

Ending a bit irritating

I love Kerry Wilkinson's stand-alone books. The main character is generally flawed, but I still root for her. This one's a bit different, because Morgan is more than flawed - she's a bit of a villain. The story line is great - very suspenseful and I did have a difficult time pausing it. I also love how Kerry threw in quick, snide Trump and Piers Morgan insults. Bravo!!!! Alison Campbell, as always, narrates his books flawlessly. My one issue was this: (spoilers ahead) As the final confrontation goes down, it seems as if the fact that Jane ran over the poor pedestrian is kind of forgotten as the battle lines are drawn. Morgan had some stuff on Jane, too, but that really wasn't mentioned at the end. Jane really didn't hold all the cards, and I'm not sure why Morgan didn't use that as a bargaining chip. That being said, this one is another solid, entertaining Wilkinson mystery, and I do highly recommend it.

Great Story.

I thought this was another great story from Kerry Wilkinson. He paints a great picture and has a way with showing the emotions of her main characters that is refreshing and honest. You root for them but also know they are flawed.

painfully slow

Not only was the story painfully slow, but the narrator, who has an otherwise lovely voice, spoke at an irritatingly sluggish pace.

Good book

Book was very entertaining but I was not Crazy about the narrators voice. It didn’t seems to match the character. She sounded older than the character was supposed to be

This book was fun. You get the chance to figure out what’s going to happen. Maybe you figure it out or not it’s a good book.

Took a while to get to the ending but...

I really wanted to like this book, it was really hard to get into for me though. I found myself daydreaming about other things and having to rewind the book a few minutes to find I really didn't miss anything. The last 30 minutes of this book had me hanging on every word more than any other part. So eh. I wish the body was better. Great ending though.

I can't believe it's not better

The raw material that the author had to work with could have made this into a cracking good thriller. She failed to craft it into a decent bit of literature, and failed to channel all the loose ends into a satisfactory ending.

This is certainly a different kind of thriller. Morgan Persephone tells us right at the start that she killed her husband a couple of years ago. What she doesn't understand are the various clues that keep coming up suggesting that he may not be dead after all.

The story as a whole is narrated by Morgan in two separate timelines:

In "The Why" timeline Morgan starts to explain to us how she came to kill her husband 2 years ago.

In The Now" timeline, Morgan has moved on with her life, she is a successful personal trainer and has a new boyfriend Andy, with whom she is planning to move in together. The clues about her former husband however keep appearing and playing on her mind.

The book was not well written, I struggled to visualise the scenes and engage with the characters, there was something missing. I persevered with this story confident that the boring bit was just scene setting and that the best bit was yet to come. It never did.

The ending when it came was particularly weak and unsatisfactory.

The narrator was OK. She spoke so slowly that I had to use the 1.25x playback speed on the App to make her sound normal.

Implausible

Had the makings of a good novel and I liked the premise but the narration left much to be desired and I felt the story could have been told better in 6 hours instead of nine. I made it to the end but it really was a hard slog and I will return.

Brilliant

I always love this Narrator, I actually searched for her on Amazon. A bad narrator can detract from a well written story. Loved this certainly difficult to put down.

Awful narration

Who chose this narrator, what a poor choice, slow and whiney - an awful combination. Can’t get passed the first chapter.

story well written

A shocking story that I really enjoyed. How life can change in a blink of an eye.
