Publisher's summary

Dani Carrigan has always relied on logic when making important life decisions, but when she discovers she's pregnant - and that there's a chance her baby may be born "not perfect" - logic lets her down.

It would help if the baby's father would pop the question, but widowed father Adrian seems more interested in protecting his six-year-old daughter than committing to his new relationship with Dani. The last time she felt this alone and scared was when she was 16 and her mother died, leaving Dani to raise her younger sisters with precious little help from her distant and disapproving rancher father. She felt so inadequate then, but is she any more prepared to be a mother now?

Support comes from an unlikely source. Dani always saw her next-door neighbour and friend, divorce attorney Elliot Gilmore, as a charming, handsome, playboy-type. But with each challenge she faces, from pregnancy, to delivery and beyond - Elliot reveals himself a better man than she ever guessed.

Is it possible that Elliot hasn't been playing the field - but waiting for her?

Wasn’t a romance or family story. Dani didn’t connect with Adrian or her sisters.

Didn’t care for this book. Elliot was interesting but Dani wasn’t. All the angst with Adrian and the baby was unbelievable when she had lots of friends and family to help her.
Also her voice was a man’s voice through the whole book.

Love these characters

I enjoyed the friends to lovers trope- the trio of friends and their different personalities. The story of Dani and her tough decision and ambivalence- her denial and love touched my heart. As a parent of a child with special needs I think she nailed it. Every family is unique and the relationships in Dani’s family feel real to me.

Synopsis was a little off.

According to the “back cover” explaining what the book was about, I was surprised Elliot didn’t know more about the babies diagnosis earlier in the book. Over all the book was tearful at times. And also gave new insight into a diagnosis I have never researched.
Surprised that the girls don’t seem to be as close as you would think after losing their mother. Second book showing that same family dynamic.

Ethics and a happy ending!

I have been so curious to hear Dani’s story. She seemed such a machine in the other books. Her story is endearing and shows her to be so much more than a pragmatic social scientist. She proves to be a vey paradoxical character. Great ethical conundrums. I so approve of how Dani chose the life of her child. My only true complaint is the mispronunciation of “trisomy.” When in doubt, check it out.

Absolutely loved this! Need more.

I didn't realize this was a short book. I wasn't ready for it to end!!! I hope she follows Beverly in the next book. I loved this. I'll be honest, it made me cry more than once. So accurate with the feelings of a new mom, with or without a special needs baby.

Absolutely loved it

What a wonderful story. Fantastic characters and at times heartbreaking and triggering story. May I suggest a trigger warning for the book as this content can be a very sensitive subject for some. As someone who has been through this it was a lot. I loved it though and that precious much loved baby.
