Publisher's Summary

Laurie Gelman's clever debut about a year in the life of a kindergarten class mom - a brilliant send-up of the petty and surprisingly cutthroat terrain of parent politics.

Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom - or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it's her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max - this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA president sees her as the "wisest" candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.

From recording parents' response times to her emails about helping in the classroom to requesting contributions of "special" brownies for curriculum night, not all of Jen's methods win approval from the other moms. Throw in an old flame from Jen's past, a hypersensitive "allergy mom", a surprisingly sexy kindergarten teacher, and an impossible-to-please Real Housewife wannabe causing problems at every turn, and the job really becomes much more than she signed up for.

Relatable, irreverent, and hilarious in the spirit of Maria Semple, this is a fresh, welcome voice in fiction - the kind of audiobook that real moms clamor for and a vicarious listen for all mothers, who will be laughing as they are liberated by Gelman's acerbic truths.

Fluff with a dash of humor

I liked the humor in this book. The emails were witty and smart. The plot and conflict were close to nonexistent, unless you consider having a personal trainer help you get ready for a mud run a problem. There was something that kept me listening and I would say the book was entertaining in a frivolous way. Laurie’s reading was easy to listen to.

Laugh Out Loud Funny!

Didn’t want this book to end. Hilarious & light- perfect for commuting! Highly recommend. If you don’t have a sense of humor, you won’t get it but for those that do, this is a treat!

A lot of fun!

Loved the narrator's voice and it was a very fun story/book. There was even a little mystery which was unexpected.

Great funny read!

As a PTA lifer this book brought so much joy to me. Witty, smooth, and a great class mom.
I think every room mom needs to read this, it’s very relatable and I can only dream to be so bold in my own class emails.

Ewh

Ewh. Drama, drama, drama. Unnecessary mom drama. If it wasn't for my book club I'd have never finished it.

Classmom rules from her email in a sassy way but so clever you wish you could do that

Returned!

I was two hours into it when I decided that this plotless book was not for me. There was absolutely no story line. If you want easy and semi funny, it may be for you, though.

I don’t understand where all the good reviews come from

I’ve seen multiple recommendations for this book, so I was really looking forward to it. I was sadly disappointed. The supposed humor fell flat. A series of emails are supposed to be wonderfully snarky, but really are just annoying. The plot is boring until a “surprise” ending that is unbelievable and pointless.
