Publisher's Summary

Laurie Gelman's clever debut about a year in the life of a kindergarten class mom - a brilliant send-up of the petty and surprisingly cutthroat terrain of parent politics.

Jen Dixon is not your typical Kansas City kindergarten class mom - or mom in general. Jen already has two college-age daughters by two different (probably) musicians, and it's her second time around the class mom block with five-year-old Max - this time with a husband and father by her side. Though her best friend and PTA president sees her as the "wisest" candidate for the job (or oldest), not all of the other parents agree.

From recording parents' response times to her emails about helping in the classroom to requesting contributions of "special" brownies for curriculum night, not all of Jen's methods win approval from the other moms. Throw in an old flame from Jen's past, a hypersensitive "allergy mom", a surprisingly sexy kindergarten teacher, and an impossible-to-please Real Housewife wannabe causing problems at every turn, and the job really becomes much more than she signed up for.

Relatable, irreverent, and hilarious in the spirit of Maria Semple, this is a fresh, welcome voice in fiction - the kind of audiobook that real moms clamor for and a vicarious listen for all mothers, who will be laughing as they are liberated by Gelman's acerbic truths.

Fluff with a dash of humor

I liked the humor in this book. The emails were witty and smart. The plot and conflict were close to nonexistent, unless you consider having a personal trainer help you get ready for a mud run a problem. There was something that kept me listening and I would say the book was entertaining in a frivolous way. Laurie’s reading was easy to listen to.

Ewh

Ewh. Drama, drama, drama. Unnecessary mom drama. If it wasn't for my book club I'd have never finished it.

Laugh Out Loud Funny!

Didn’t want this book to end. Hilarious & light- perfect for commuting! Highly recommend. If you don’t have a sense of humor, you won’t get it but for those that do, this is a treat!

Fun read!

Fun, light read with relatable characters and a lot of nod-your-head-in-agreement moments for those with kindergarteners.

Entertaining

Entertaining little book, but not as funny as I thought. i was hoping to get more about the parents interaction regarding class parent communication than personal drama. Overall it was ok. Kept my mind off my chores.

Hysterical and fun

As a room mom and primary school teacher, I found this to be so funny! The performance was fantastic, too.

A must for the sarcastic mom!

Having completed being my daughters room parent for her kindergarten and first grade class... this book was a riot. The email reads are something all too relatable! The story had some easy predictions at times, but a few good twists too. The performance was wonderful... just a fun and easy read!

What a hoot!

Totally loved this story and performance! Wish I knew J. Dixon or was at least half the class mom she was. Would almost do it all again to be just like her. Highly recommend for a good time!
