Publisher's summary

The system that time forgot suddenly shows back up.

The Cipher ran the universe with its game-like rules, and it has chosen Cullen, an exiled bounty hunter, to be the method of its return. He's given a quest to free a telepathic mother and son from wrongful imprisonment. If he can break his targets out of prison, they'll have to level up, learn new skills, and hunt down the prophecy's clues. All while facing down berserkers and EMP-hurling tigers in a jungle that offers no succor.

The promised reward is that the Cipher will grant access and the associated power to all of his embattled people, turning the tide in the galactic war that's ravaging the cosmos.

Includes "Apocalypse Archer", a bonus story from the Ciphercraft series.

Potentially great series!

As another review mentioned, this book seemed more of a setup. That being said, my favorite part by far was the bonus novella at the end. This has the potential to become a great series, depending where the author takes the next book.

sci-fi gamelit!

Great story and narration!

I really enjoyed this audiobook! It's fairly rare to find a Sci-Fi gamelit story, and this one was fantastic!

Ryan did a wonderful job with the narration and really brought the characters to life!

I can't wait to find out what happens in the next book of this series!

Pretty much a set up book...

I will start by saying I hope this set up pays off in Book 2, because this entire story was a slog… It’s not that it was poor writing, or particularly bad narrating, it’s just that the entire book seemed to slowly be moving towards an actually good story, with basically no pay off at the end. In fact, the Bonus Novella at the end was the best part of this entire thing. If the bonus novella is indicative of what Book 2 will look like, then I’m in, but if not, I will return it for a credit. Somehow, the Archer managed to do in 1 hour of story telling what all the other characters only managed in the first 10 hours of the book. It was basically 10 hours of not knowing or understanding their powers, being sent on a quest they didn’t understand, with the bulk of the action being extremely tiny skirmishes in the woods revolving around who could "think harder" than the person they were fighting. Like I said, it was a set up book and in my opinion, the author did us a disservice by not combining Books 1 & 2 into a 24 hour story. Feels like watching an anime character run through the woods from bad guys for 20 episodes, only for them to obtain the power to fight back in episode 20, and then forcing you to wait for the next season to see what they can actually do with their power. Sorry Tim Kaiver, but that seems like dirty pool to me. Based on the bonus content, it’s clear you have created a LitRPG that will contain good action sequences, character development, loot, and dungeon diving, but forced people to use a credit for the first half of this story. Should’ve been a 4-Star book. This wasn’t, despite the reviews.

hard to follow

I really don't like the minimum word count requirements for audible reviews. . . .
