I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I was very disappointed with the story. Although some cute parts I did not enjoy.

Modern

I saw this on Amazon scouts and had wanted to see where the story went. It is short and sweet but I had hope to see a lot more character development and story line. If your just looking for a short little pick me up this is fine. I liked what I got just wanted more. Greedy I guess. I received this book at no charge in exchange for an honest review.

Modern Cinderella

This was a great short story. It was a very unique modern Cinderella. The story drew me in and kept me interested all the way to the conclusion.

The narrator did a great job bringing the story to life.

This is a great clean story with a very unique Cinderella. She is a mechanic and lives in a shed. Henry is a sweet guy that likes to bake. I enjoyed the fresh take on Cinderella. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Jamie Brook Thompson.

A Modern Fairytale

This cute story has a little bit of everything! A handsome cowboy, an adorable wiener dog, best friendships, and a happily ever after. Cindee Ellis has lived in Silver Creek all her life with her uncle and his wife Marge and daughter Priscilla. Cindee's step aunt and step cousin are just as evil as in the traditional fairy tale, and Cindee is overworked, underpaid, and kept under their thumb by constant demands. Cindee works as a mechanic in her uncle's garage and is a genius under the hood. One day her lifelong crush Henry Christensen arrives to get his truck detailed, and despite her grease splattered clothes and tongue tied shyness, he actually flirts with her.

I love a good makeover story, and I love a story where the girl is just as strong, independent, and knowledgeable as the love interest. This novella has both. The traditional gender role reversals are so well done. Even though the story is narrated by Cindee, it's easy to see why Henry likes her so much. She's strong, funny, and smart to boot. Her low self esteem caused by her living situation and family background is believable and it was great to tag along and watch her finally stand up for herself.

I really didn't want the story to end, I wanted to hear more about this adorable couple. Luckily there's a short story from Henry's point of view called Henry's Courage available online.

The narrator was perfect, her pace was spot on and her twang fit the story so well. A lot of Cindee's dialogue in the beginning of the story was in her head, and Angie Hickman did a good job differentiating between what was spoken aloud and what was not. This is my second story by the narrator and I can tell she's one to follow! I was given a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Modern day take on Cinderella

This is a cute take on Cinderella in today's society. I would consider this romance a YA romance as it's appropriate for that age group as well.

Cindee is a complete tomboy living with her aunt in a shed and trying to escape her life. Henry (prince charming) is a different take as well from the typical prince and readers will get to see this as the story develops. I liked how the "fairy godmother" was replaced by a best friend to both characters Gottfried. The story is a quick listen that is cute and a feel good listen.

Angie Hickman did a great job narrating the story. She never fails to deliver a good story and bring a good performance to the story.

Cute Sweet Story

This was a short cute story somewhat based on Cinderella. I really liked it. I would consider it a YA read just based on the story. I really liked Cindee and Henry. There is really nothing bad I can say about this book. The narration by Angie Hickman was perfect for the story. I think this would be a cute story for anyone to listen to but young girls may especially like this one.

Short and sweet, loved it!

This new take on an old fairytale was a breath of fresh air. While we all know the story, you can't help but keep listening to find out what is going to happen. Cindee is pretty much a tomboy, enjoying her work as a mechanic. Henry, her lifelong secret passion and our prince charming to our surprise enjoys baking. A little twist in the prince charming family gives this old fairy tale some new life. I really enjoyed the budding relationship between the two and how they finally got together. The conceptions of different people always is interesting too, bringing in Gottfried as the best friend and how he had no friends but for Cindee and Henry. He is so lovable, you can help but love his character(hoping he is not forgotten and we get a continuation of this group) and of course we hate the evil "stepsister" of Priscilla and how horrible of a person she is. Jamie Brook Thompson created a cast of characters you can't help be love.

Angie Hickman was amazing as the narrator of this book. This is my first audio by her and she nails each character with the emotion and tact necessary to keep my interest. She also is able to differentiate the characters well and perform with all the feels! Loved it!

sweet and clean

I enjoyed this twist on the fairytale story of Cinderella. This book by Jaime Brook Thompson was refreshing and somewhat original. The performance by Angie Hickman was fitting. I loved the awkward moments that were described in the story. I found this book to be very good and would listen to it again when in mood for sweet and clean. Short and sweet!

Adorable modern retelling of a classic story. Super cute take/twist on this fairy tale. I really enjoyed it. Narration by Angie Hickman was great. She was right on point down to her 'twang' she going. My only complaint was that I wish it was longer! But I guess that just means author Jamie Brook Thompson did her job well. Definitely recommend this quick, cute listen.

Sweet modern fairytale

This was a really cute story and not quite what I was expecting. I loved Angie's accent and how she kept it through the entire narration with changes for different characters. Her voice was just perfect for the shyly sweet Cindee. I loved the charm and ease of Henry and just the overall wonderful feelings this book produced. It's great hearing a Cinderella story that's so modernized and yet does great at keeping to the theme without coming across forced.

Great Story

I love Cinderella stories and this book doesn't disappoint.

It's short but it doesn't need to be, longer the story flows so well.

I enjoyed Angie Hickman's narration too.

A real life fairytale.

The title is true to the story :) This very much is as real as a fairytale can be in the real world. We have Cindee as our resident Cinderella and Henry as our Prince Charming
There are two other books in this series available to us at present on Audible Uk, one as a "real life" Beauty and the Beast and the other as The frog Princess.I will definitely be checking them out soon! The book was short and sweet and in more ways than one.Like a mug of hot chocolate in front of a log fire on a sheep skin rug..... Good story telling all round and well read. Perfect, just seems like a classic old tale re-vamped for us in the 21 century. Its quite an adorable short listen.Angie Hickman was agelight to listen to as usual and exhibited her normal vast skill as a narrator. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.I received this title for free in exchange for an unbiased review. As always this is my honest opinion .

More of a realistic fairytale.

Any additional comments?

This is a clean, loose adaptation of Cinderella. The book is short but I believe it is the right length. I love the romance between the two characters and it is not what you would expect. if you are expecting a fairy godmother then you would be disappointed. It is more about friendship and how they help each other out when one of them needs help.
I still liked it and thought it was different and realistic. The message I got was you have to help yourself (by working hard and never giving up) and being patient (it might take a long while) before things start to get better. It does have a happy ending.
I would recommend this book to those who love romance and fairy tales.

Feeling Underwhelmed

I was voluntarily provided this review copy audio book at no charge by the author, publisher, and/or narrator

I was expecting to really enjoy the story, I am a sucker for any type of romance especially if it takes on characteristics of my favorite childhood story, but I just didn't feel that the romance was built enough or that the characters had enough of a connection to be together. I would have paired Cindee with another character, yet I enjoyed the little Easter egg's surrounding the names, which I only realized later on as I heard the names multiple times.

The performance aspect of the audio book I did enjoy and could see how you could become immersed in the world of audio books.

Sweet, clean and inspiring

Inspired by the fairy tale, Jamie Brook Thompson's book is short, sweet and clean. It has a few sad aspects that are skimmed over because of the length of the story. I particularly love how the author has switched the usually gender defined careers of two protagonists, Cindy and Henry, and how naturally they fit. Overall, the story has a feel-good happiness peppered with a bit of small town drama. I just wish there was a little more explained about Godfrey, who has an important role to play. Perhaps there is another book?

Angie Hickman's narration fits this book perfectly. Her voice has a sweetness that reflects the sweetness of Cindy's character to the T.
