Maradoum #4

Once again a must read by Ross Hughes Each of the short stories have you engrossed, and with a cup of coffee by your side you don’t want to put this book down. Can’t wait to read more from Ross...Ruel T. Fulford did an okay job of narrating. I received this audiobook for free from S.O and the author.

Volume 4 in the Chronicles of Maradoum!

Ross Hughes continues the Chronicles of Maradoum with Volume 4. The action starts at the beginning and does not stop until the last story. Absolutely love the main characters, the world in which they live, and the overall plots of each short story. I look forward to Volume 5! Audio Version: Ruel T. Fulford does a good job picking up the characters and overall narration.

Excellent addition to the Maradoum series.

When I got the opportunity to listen to a review copy of the audiobook of Volume 4 of the Chronicles of Maradoum series through StoryOrigin, I jumped at the chance. Having previously read the first Volume IV I knew what to expect –Well, after listening to this 4th volume I’m pleased to say it was all I expected and more. In fact, I’d have to say it is the best of this series, while I had this opinion after reading Volume IV, listening to Ruel T. Fulford narrate it furthered this belief. I was mesmerized by the voices and accents he used which made this a story that didn’t feel like Mardoum is tethered to any geographical region of this planet.

Vol 4, Collection of Short Stories

I have listened to Vol 1-3 of this Short Story Collection and decided to go with #4 too!
This author is writing a series of Short Stories that may or may not be tied into each other. Narrator does a good job with the various Stories in this collection.

Exciting Fantasy Tales of Maradoum

I love short stories. This fourth collection of The Chronicles of Maradoum is as fascinating and thought provoking as the earlier collections. Tales from all corners of Maradoum, we learn more of this beautifully envisioned, complex world and its peoples. My favourite stories were Dragon Stance (a young monk bullied by her peers) and The Pygmy and the Bandits (a pacifist pygmy confronts bandit raiders). I shuddered reading the Undead Monkeys, when we meet the horde of Thakshir who are a major driving force in the Convent series. This is a book of battles, betrayal, love and loyalty.

The narration was excellent. All those names that looks so hard to pronounce on paper just flowed. Totally recommended. Enjoy

Another well-written story from a very good author

Chronicles of Maradoum Volume 4: A Fantasy Anthology, my ninth read from author Ross C. Hughes. 6 hrs and 42 mins/154 pages. An entertaining collection of fantasy short reads. “I received a free Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I'll definitely be reading more from this author. Narrator Ruel T. Fulford's entertaining narration made this re-read extra enjoyable(RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.

Pretty good

I normally don't like anthologies like this volume, but I was surprised. This volume of stories is interesting. I wasn't really thrilled with the narrator. Overall this is a good listen.

Baskerville Book Reviews

This review primarily focuses on the audiobook, which is a DNF from me.

There are two huge issues with this book for me. The first is the lesser of the 2. The stories are all SUPER short. I enjoyed the first one, despite how predictable it was. The rest have just been forgettable at best.

The biggest issue by far is the narrator and his obnoxious, ever-present background hissing. He reads every line in the same lifeless, soul-sucking, monotone, boring-as-shit voice that puts me to sleep. Up until now, I’ve tolerated it, because he does decent character voices. As I said in my post “Finding quality audio narrators“, most narrators are either good at doing character voices, or scene narration. But his character voices aren’t anything special either. At best, they’re a respite from his lifeless narration. He puts the same amount of enthusiasm into a character mid-battle as he does a character taking a leisurely stroll walking down the path.

NOTE: This copy was provided to me free of charge as a digital review copy. The opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone, I was not paid or requested to give this book a certain rating, suggestion, or approval.
