Publisher's summary

Wrap yourself in the taste of Christmas with this fantastic festive romance!

Christa Playfoot is looking for a fresh start after her divorce. Having lost her Michelin-starred restaurant, she hadn't expected to be job hunting and single just before Christmas.

When her best friend says she's recommended Christa for a gig as a private chef over the Christmas period, Christa can't think of a reason to say no.

Christa has no idea what to expect but it's certainly not grumpy billionaire divorcee Marc Ferrier and his rambunctious twin sons, or the beautiful but cheerless country estate, Pudding Hall, that they inhabit.

With her knack for pouring love into her cooking, Christa is determined to make this Christmas sparkle for the Ferrier family and maybe get her life back on track in the process...

Kate Forster lives in Melbourne, Australia, with her husband, two children and dogs and can be found nursing a laptop, surrounded by magazines and talking on the phone, usually all at once. She is an avid follower of fashion, fame and all things pop culture and is also an excellent dinner party guest who always brings gossip and champagne.

The characters and story are purely delightful!

The story is the perfect book if you are in the mood for a modern fairytale in a beautiful Christmas Downton Abbey setting. The good guys win and they champion for those struggling. It’s a wonderful antidote if you want to escape and just feel good. I love Kate Forster, and just recently discovered her. I’m rapidly working through her entire catalog. The narrator is lovely, and I have to slow down and not binge the books like one would binge Christa‘s delicious sweets. The recipes included are bonus fun for foodies too!

Wonderful, read it!

I discovered Kate Forster only recently, but really like the way that she blends this type of cutesy story (which can often feel overly sugary and not at all believable) with grounded, realistic characters. I really enjoyed this book, and loved everything about it, from the setting, to the unexpected kindness of a few initially unlikable characters, even down to the way she shows the main character reacting when she has to interact with her gaslighting ex husband. It was a warm and sweet story, and if you are thinking of reading or listening to, go for it. You won’t be disappointed.

Perfect Holiday listen

Halfway through the book, I realized I had already listened to this book. I liked it so much I listened again. Well narrated and a plot that moves along quickly. Worth a listen.

Love the story. But the narration…

Americans don’t say “arse”. And there are a plethora of other things that go wrong here with the “American” characters. The accent is not American - not even remotely. And Americans don’t say arse and mum. And we don’t say bum, in general, we say butt instead. As an American listening to this story, these things stood out like a sore thumb and I could not get past them. Also, sometimes the male characters sounded high-pitched which made the storyline hard to follow.

With all that being said, it is a sweet Christmas story. This was my first story by this author and I am immediately starting another. But with a different narrator.
