Critic Reviews

"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." ( AudioFile magazine)

It would help if they told you the pinyin spelling

It's an overall great approach however when it's very hard to discern exactly what sound is being made by the speaker errors are introduced when you don't know the spelling of the transliteration. For this reason people have published transcripts online however they have been sued by the maker of this book and forced to take those transcripts offline

A good practical way to study conversational Manda

This formula makes it easy to study conversational Mandarin, step by step, day by day.

This is a great way to start a new language

As someone with ADHD. I decided to learn as I ran a few miles rather than listen to music. I've read a few books about Mandarin but honestly couldn't focus we'll enough. Not any more!

Not useful

I'm already learning Mandarin with a Chinese friend and this is a poor book for learning. The lesson jumps all over the place, and doesn't teach you how to speak as much as imitate bits of a conversation you will likely not remember.

good tool if you have the time

the conversations towards the end are a little too fast but you can always rewind in 30 second intervals as many times as you want so it's bearable.

Learning Mandarin

This was a free first lesson to the coarse. I have no ability with languages but I managed to understand and repeat what was being said by the end of the lesson.
The downside is the long explanation in English at the start, but I'm sure the following lessons won't have that.
I'll buy some more lessons.
