Publisher's Summary

Kevin Kwan, best-selling author of Crazy Rich Asians, is back with a wickedly funny new novel of social climbing, secret e-mails, art-world scandal, lovesick billionaires and the outrageous story of what happens when Rachel Chu, engaged to marry Asia's most eligible bachelor, discovers her birth father.

On the eve of her wedding to Nicholas Young, heir to one of the greatest fortunes in Asia, Rachel should be over the moon. She has a flawless Asscher-cut diamond from JAR, a wedding dress she loves more than anything found in the salons of Paris, and a fiancé willing to sacrifice his entire inheritance in order to marry her. But Rachel still mourns the fact that her birth father, a man she never knew, won't be able to walk her down the aisle.

Until: a shocking revelation draws Rachel into a world of Shanghai splendor beyond anything she has ever imagined. Here we meet Carlton, a Ferrari-crashing bad boy known for Prince Harry-like antics; Colette, a celebrity girlfriend chased by fevered paparazzi; and the man Rachel has spent her entire life waiting to meet: her father.

Meanwhile, Singapore's It Girl, Astrid Leong, is shocked to discover that there is a downside to having a newly minted tech billionaire husband. A romp through Asia's most exclusive clubs, auction houses and estates, China Rich Girlfriend brings us into the elite circles of Mainland China, introducing a captivating cast of characters and offering an inside glimpse at what it's like to be gloriously, crazily China-rich.

Really enjoyable twists and turns.

I really loved that the voice actress kept each of the characters a little different from the others. It made it much easier to follow

Fashion blog rant

i can see why the movie bombed in china. very limited appeal - i think if you arent singaporean or hk chinese the novel would bore you silly.

Drama, drama, drama

this book was really captivating, the drama was unbelievable, I loved how all the characters where stringed along to be part of the story. Astrid and Michael were a match I hoped would be broken up, Charlie deserves Astrid and hats up to Rachel for standing up for herself.

Enjoyable

Though a lot more fluff than Book 1, it was entertaining. I preferred the narrator in Book 2.

Good sequel but performance let it down.

I devoured Crazy Rich Asians in about two days and loved it. The sequel has the same crazy soap opera style plot and is great for an easy listen. My main issue is the change of narrator. Lynn Chen did a great job with the first book but I found Lydia Look’s performance too jarring. Nick sounded American half the time and Rachel’s voice grated on my nerves. It’s slightly put me off listening to the final book, I might just buy the book instead of listening to it.

Great book, poor narration

I really enjoyed the narration of the first book but the narration of this one is very distracting. The pace is weird and there are long mid-sentence pauses making it quite frustrating to listen to. I ended up getting the actual book instead.

Great sequel, lacking narration

The storyline is a good follow-up to Crazy Rich Asians - the tie between the characters and their extended storylines, as well as the tidy introduction of new characters (with just as strong storylines and backgrounds) is done very well.

The sequel keeps the readers imagination going with the crazy world belonging to the characters!

I wish they had kept the initial narrator from the first book, as she did well to bring the characters to life, as well as staying true to each of their accents (i.e. Nick sounds more American in this, when he should have a British accent).

Great continuation

Really great continuation from Crazy Rich Asians.
Only downside is that the footnotes get read mid sentence which spoils the flow in places. but it's a tiny thing

Soap opera-ish

This audiobook is the aural version of a trashy soap opera. The emphasis of the story is (as the title suggests) money. Lots and lots of money. And designer clothes. And fast cars. And ostentatious jewellery. And oneupmanship. The storyline lacks depth and I did become bored part way through although my interest returned towards the end. An okay listen but forgettable afterwards.

Thoroughly enjoyable

A few surprises in store for Racheal and Nick.

The narration was excellent and I occasionally forgot it was only one person doing all the voices.

A fun, easy read with a unique angle!

This book really draws you in, all the plot lines are easy to follow so it’s the perfect story to read between heavier books.
I really liked the narrator and all the author notes were really interesting, I learned a lot!
So yeah I definitely recommend.

Still enjoyable- just

The continuing story is engaging and fun but the narrator is terrible. Poor pronunciation and terrible accents (other than American) make this a bit of a chore. It’s a shame the first book’s narrator didn’t do this one too.

This is fun

If you are a lover of Singapore and Hong Kong this is an enjoying read. It is fun listening out for the little haunts Singas and HK have to offer. As the story goes, I think Astrid and Kitty Pong are my two new favourite heroines!

More depth than the first book

This is an excellent followup to Crazy Rich Asians, although you sometimes feel like you need a family tree to track all the characters.
While Rachel and Nick's relationship was the heart of the first book, this focuses more on Astrid and a few other characters to provide a counter point to the leads life. Highly enjoyable read
