Publisher's summary

Jack's a retired ex-cop from New York, seeking the simple life in Cherringham. Sarah's a Web designer who's moved back to the village to find herself. But their lives are anything but quiet as the two team up to solve Cherringham's criminal mysteries. This compilation contains episodes 25 - 27.

Secret Santa
Bill Vokes has played Santa at the children's Christmas show for years. But with the show just hours away, he vanishes with no explanation. The whole village is baffled. Did something bad happen to loveable Bill: upstanding citizen, churchgoer, life and soul of the party and the holiday season?

Scared to Death
When classic horror movie star Basil Coates becomes the victim of a series of scary pranks, the local police put it down to a crazed fan. Just pranks, after all ... But with Halloween only days away, the spectre of murder suddenly visits the ghostly Coates mansion on the hill outside Cherringham - and Jack and Sarah find themselves caught in a mystery worthy of Basil's spookiest roles ...

Death on a Moonlit Night
When the boss of the big local DIY outlet is murdered on a moonlit night, all the evidence points to the store's junior manager. And when police retrieve the murder weapon from the Thames, the manager goes on the run. But Jack and Sarah are not at all sure of his guilt. Can they uncover the real killer before it's too late for the runaway suspect?

Co-authors Neil Richards (based in the UK) and Matthew Costello (based in the US), have been writing together since the mid 90's, creating content and working on projects for the BBC, Disney Channel, Sony, ABC, Eidos, and Nintendo to name but a few. Their transatlantic collaboration has underpinned scores of TV drama scripts, computer games, radio shows, and - most recently - the successful crime fiction series Cherringham. The narrator of the audiobook, Neil Dudgeon, has been in many British television programmes including the roles of 'DCI John Barnaby' in 'Midsomer Murders' and 'Jim Riley' in 'The Life of Riley'. He is also known for his film roles in 'The Nativity', 'Sorted' and 'Son of Rambow'. In 2012 Dudgeon starred as 'Norman Birkett' on BBC Radio 4's Afternoon Play series written by Caroline and David Stafford.

I think they forgot they left us on a cliffhanger.

The cliffhanger is mentioned toward the end of book 27, but we don't get the actual story of what happened - they literally just reference it happened :/ Other than that, it's basic Cherringham fare. It didn't seem as good as their usual stuff, but that might be because I was waiting the whole time for the story of what happened after the end of book 24.

Do Not Buy - Previously Issued Stories

Two of these stories are repeats. Audible has some explaining to do. This is not a new collection.

Not new stories

I got this compilation only to discover that books 25 and 26 were previously released in other compilations. I am returning the book because of this. Audible, you need to fix this.

Redundant stories

I love the series but when this one came out it was a compilation of two old ones with one new one. I was sadly inferred that it was to be three new stories.

What happened??

UPDATE! I did some research and discovered you need to read (or listen as I so love to do!) “Dead in the Water” before reading this book to complete the cliffhanger.

Love this series! But did the writers just forget they left us with a cliff hanger in the last series?? Several questions unanswered! Not happy

Not all new stories.

If you buy this three book series, just be aware that the first story is a Christmas novella that you may have already read. I started it and thought the story sounded familiar, went back to my Kindle, and realized I had already read the Christmas novella. These audible books are not expensive and it is still worth the price, but it was particularly notable because it is out of order from the story I had just read which had a bit of a cliffhanger ending and the season wasn’t right. Again, I’m just mentioning it so people will be aware. I still love all of these books.

dissapointed

why end the last story with such a cliffhanger and then ignore it completely in episode 25. why not just finish with the birthday party. what was the whole point of the accident. readers would be waiting to hear what happens to Jacks family and everything. so disappointing.

A fun series!

I'm loving this series, and so far, I only have one complaint. To end ep# 23 with a cliffhanger, and not reveal what happens in ep #24(or 25, 26, & 27), is downright cruel.
That said, this is a fun series, and Neil Dudgeon's narration is first rate.

Pretty good

Make sure you read/ listen to "Dead in the Water" before this 3 book compilation as that also answers the cliff hanger of episode 24. Listened to two and was a little confused. Some others mentioned that there were duplicates, or just secret Santa, but I had all new and 3 books. Was a good Cherringham listen

Very confusing!

I waited with impatience to discover what was going to happen to Jack after his dramatic return to America and was thrilled when the next episode was released! Why then was I now listening to a repeat of a Christmas episode and no mention of the events of the last episode? The following episode assumes we all know what has happened and Jack has now magically returned to Cherringham (maybe!) and Sarah has somehow moved house and acquired a dog!!! I was very confused but dear reader (or should I say listener) read on..........
I accidentally came across 'Dead in the Water' whilst browsing and found the missing link! This is the story to listen to that bridges the episodes and explains what happened.
I still don't understand why it was formatted this way, it would have been much simpler to just keep going with the numbered episodes, Anyway, as usual it's all really good listening, you just have to search for it this time! As always, Neil Dudgeon does an amazing job....

Confused

Although I have rated this 5 star ,,I have to say I'm confused. Going from book 24 where at the end Jack goes back to America as his daughter has been in an accident. And Sarah is still living in the village. Then in 25 to 27 it seems Jack is back with no mention of his visit to America, and no mention of his daughter ,and how long he was away, only that Sarah looked after Riley while he was away. She now has a dog and has moved to house by the river. There is no details of these events.

Who is in charge of editing this series?

I am rather disappointed with this edition. In book 24 we are confronted with Jack hurrying back to the US because his daughter was involved in a car accident. Comes this book, 25-27 and it starts with an old, already published story about a Santa Claus case, with no continuation to book 24, just as if nothing happened. I do not understand that the editor of the Audiobooks allowed this extremely grave mistake, making it seem that they did not have enough material and just threw some material together to sell it. It is unacceptable. Book 25 should give us closure on the accident, and Jack’s return to Cherringham. We only hear one sentence about this in book 27, hence it means that book 25 and 26 are out of sinc. Also, the seasons do not match, from summer to Christmas to summer again. Not good. Then, insult to injury, after I purchased 25-27, another book is going to be published. I guess this will be the book when Jack returns.
So, the question is: is Audiobooks going to correct this faux-pas? Because now the company is giving us the impression that they just want to sell and no matter the loyal
clients. The thing is, you broke the spell and the continuity of the series.

Good stories. Abysmal Audible handling.

Audible messed up on this one. The cliffhanger ending from episode 24 is ignored completely. They should have named this compilation 26-28 instead and given the readers a heads up that full length novels are now present as well. These obviously affect the main storyline. Audible - stupid, stupid, stupid!

However - the stories themselves are as good as ever, as is the narration.

Another great compilation!

Just finished listening to Cherringham compilation 25-27 and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I have already read the Kindle version however I always buy the audio version and look forward to having it read to me by the lovely Neil Dudgeon. My only complaint is the audio version in the UK takes so long and they are quite a way behind the German version. Although maybe that’s because Neil Dudgeon is kept very busy solving crimes in Midsomer County😂

Disappointed

I am very disappointed again with audible, again they have messed up the order of stories, they have done this before on the baldi series and even worse left out a whole series in woman of letters while saying it was the complete series. This is not good as you are paying for something that is not actually getting. I enjoy audible a lot so hope they improve on these things, that said the stories were good but not enjoyed as much as before.

wish you didn't mix English and German stories tog

I like the series and Neil Dudgeon is a good narater but the stories in English and German are mixed together making it difficult for us visually impaired folks to get the right language 😀🙂😓😢😭 and still no feed back from Audible

Enjoyable light entertainment, but…

I have enjoyed this light, easy listening series…the narrator is superb .
But Mr. Costello’s ‘Americanisms’, that I assume have been missed by the editor, are irritating…e.g. English babies do not wear ‘diapers’ nor do we often refer to the ‘highway’.
