Publisher's Summary

The Franklin Academy is the most prestigious magick school in the US, with the highest admission standards, and tuition to match. Any student would be honored to go at all, much less get a scholarship.

Not Chance Fortunato. He’d much rather stay at home and study under his mentor, Dr. Corwin. But when a student is attacked and his soul is ripped from his body, Chance knows he has to stay. Not only must he prove his innocence, but he is the only person in the state who has experience fighting the ancient blood magick that is being twisted to a new and terrible purpose.

The stakes have never been higher, and Chance has never faced odds like these before. Stripped of his usual network of friends and allies, can he stop the attacks before they strike too close to home? Or will he be the next victim of a dark and terrible sorcery?

Too much and not enough

There was too much information about the larger setting of the world that neither enriched the setting nor contributed to the story, and not enough story. The story is only about 60% of the book, which is not enough. I wouldn’t read it unless it was free.

Ectous!!!

just finished a marathon listen through all the available books in this series. I'm entranced! Reeder writes like the story is meant for the screen. characters are true and authentic. the magic is complex enough and the redemption theme is so relevant!
don't be fooled by reviews that think teenagers can or need be shielded from reality. the policing of sexual content is misplaced and unnecessary...there isn't and graphic tales to tell.
love the narrator! great inflection...so young male!

I can't put this down!!

Without a doubt one of the best series I've come across. Great character build and epic story line and narration. This series is full of supernatural action/suspense. If you start this series you won't want to put it down.

Really enjoying the series !

I’ve listen to a few book in a similar vain to this one, occult action mysteries. So far this has been my favorite… the main character has redeeming qualities and is actually attempting to be a better person.

I look forward to the next book in the series.

I appreciate the pick of Charlie Thurston for the voice acting, he does a wonderful job with the multiple different impression and truest brings the book to life.

This book wants to be Harry Potter

I tried so hard to like this book. The reader did a really good job and that is probably what kept me going till the end. There were so many similarities to Harry Potter. I love that book. But I felt like the story could’ve been a little bit more original. Also, the story was not well defined. It was a very disappointing read

A return to a better story

The story is better if somewhat unremarkable. This is judged by the good standard set by book 1 and 2. However what this book did manage is touch that magic nerve where the emotional portraits of the characters hit you.
This book is not one id revisit. but still worth a listen for free.

Book 4 Has Emotion and Pain

Chance arrives at Wizard School to find he and Junkyard are not really welcome. He makes a few friends with his room ate, his close friends and a sprite. Classmates are being attacked and their souls taken so Chance starts to investigate. Chapter 18 is very emotional and I shed a few tears.
