A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. Publisher's Summary
Chandos Avenue is a five-bedroomed house in one of the most sought after areas of Beodericsworth. Owned by Jason Barker, John Handful is slightly reluctant to answer a letter demanding his services by the Chairman of Beodericsworth Ornithological Society. Entering the strange world of bird-watching Handful is a little at a loss at his ability to help. He is apparently meant to consult on someone embezzling the society's funds and Jason Barker's reoccurring dream, of death, something not usually within his remit. The dream haunts Jason and only 24 hours after dismissing the bemused detective the dream becomes real. What ensues is a perplexing short story in which everyone is thrown into disarray and the mystery of secret lovers, flowers and a death that is not as it appears, slowly unfolds.

Short and shallow
This is definitely a short story. As such the plot is not as intricate as a longer whodunnit mystery novel or novella. It is a strong plot, although I found myself not really staying abreast of the characters and their motivations as each had a cursory introduction at best.
However, there is a mystery. The clues add up. So, if you like solving the riddle of the plot, you’ll like this listen!
The narrator is a bit slow, but I listened at 1.3 and found it very ok.

This was a good short mystery. The story was difficult to follow at times but the ending was good. The narrator was fine.
Disclaimer: I've been listening at 2x speed for so long anything else sounds like slow motion. My enjoyment of the narrator is based on my listening speed. I only leave 5 stars for books I've listened to multiple times. I'll update my review if I listen again.

Short Crime Mystery
I received this book at my request in exchange for my honest review.
This book definitely had potential, but due to its short length, it was unable to fully deliver. The narration was good, and the plot definitely had the makings of an excellent novel. I just felt there was too much dumped into such a short novella, and made it hard for me to fully enjoy the story. If you are looking for a quick read that gets to the point quickly, this is a good book for you.

Note: I received this audio-book for free with a request for an honest review.
Clever, entertaining little story with an interesting ending. Maybe a bit too concise; might have been better with a little more development of the characters and scenario. Narrator was good but not great; well suited to the material but maybe a touch too low-key.

Terrible narrator
The narrator in this story was so boring I simply could not concentrate on the story at all, my mind kept wandering off, I gave up eventually and never really knew what the story was about, so one star may be unfair but it's the best I can offer.
I receved a free review copy in exchange for an honest review, which was rather tricky as explained, I've done the best I can.

The narrator is robotic in his delivery, there’s no inflection in his tone. This is a short story with a mystery to solve which means it has to grab your attention early to keep you invested in the outcome, unfortunately the monotone delivery affects this greatly.

Good story but has been let down by the narrator. Personally I found them very monotone and gave little definition between characters, making it hard to follow. it sounded almost robotic.
