A revolutionary financial and career path to break free from corporate America's grasp, make peace with your finances, and build wealth on your own terms

When it comes to our finances, we’re told to follow the same script as our white colleagues: work hard, make money, save, and invest. Yet despite putting in twice the effort, you end up making less and are routinely passed up for career opportunities. Here’s the truth: financial freedom is within your reach, but playing by corporate America’s rules will only take you halfway there. To win, you must eventually walk away—and take up an entirely different model of wealth accumulation.

Cashing Out is your roadmap to financial freedom despite the broken system. You don’t have to sacrifice your time and mental health to maximize income. Instead, financial experts Julien and Kiersten Saunders show how to design a life that allows you to enjoy the little things now while setting yourself up for future financial security. Drawing from their journey paying off $200,000 of debt in five years, quitting their high-stress corporate jobs, and retaking control of their finances, this book will teach you:

  • Why the mantra and glitz of “Black Excellence” is an unsustainable motivation for wealth building
  • How to prioritize the right goals at each stage of your career so you can quit in 15 years or less
  • How to talk about money with your loved ones without coming to blows
  • Practical strategies to bring more money in without robbing you of time and energy you don’t have

It’s time to stop being a cog in the machine that leaves you under-appreciated and underpaid. Cashing Out shows you how to open the door to a new kind of prosperity.

Excellent!

Julien and Kiersten provided real life examples of various financial scenarios faced by couples that can be difficult to openly discuss. It was so good to hear about the authors’ financial independence journey.

Refreshing Black perspective and experience for pursuing FI

Great listen and loved hearing from both Julien and Kiersten. Their honesty and unapologetically Black perspective really addresses the considerations, challenges, and choices that are related to the black experience in the U.S. I loved their personal stories which were all completely relatable and relevant! I loved strategic way of thinking about careers as leverage for taking intentional steps towards FI rather than plunging into it without a plan! I appreciated their challenge for readers to stop over consuming financial education without making any moves applying the knowledge learned. This is a great book for a range of life stages: college student, new professional or older professional ready for change! Also a great read for families and couples who need to see and hear that this can be done! Can’t wait to apply what I gleaned!

I was invested from beginning to end!

All the truth with a side of humbleness. This book came right on time. I laughed, I cringed (at myself) & most importantly, I am excited to start my FIRE journey.

Great Advice - a lot do the same advice from other personal finance books

As someone who reads a lot of modern personal finance books, I was hoping this book would differentiate itself a little more from the rest but nevertheless it is still packed with good information. I enjoyed the stories they used and how the couple jointly narrates the book based on their own unique experiences with money. They also did a great job explaining how those 1% financial advisor fees can eat away at your earnings over time & gave me the final nudge to sever ties with my own financial advisor in favor of managing my own assets.

Basic guidance

Very basic in content, if you are starting out would be worth a listen, too much play on ethnic background

Terrible

Couldn’t get past the first couple of chapters due to the constant repetition of the tale of “being black woe”.
