Amazing!!!!

This was so beautifully done! I listened to the production as I read along with the book and it really helped me visualize the story! My only dislikes was that some character names had been changed and not mentioned i.e Lafontane was not included as well as the mention of Baron Vordenburg which was replaced by the doctor. When reading along, it skipped some parts in the book and dialogue was added but was well done and allowed more character development instead of just hearing Laura's thoughts. Overall, amazing and will definitely be listening to it again. Highly recommended!

Perfect story for dark winter nights

If you could sum up Carmilla in three words, what would they be?

Gothic, mysterious, entertaining.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Carmilla of course, got to love a baddy!

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They bring the stories and characters to life. The main female leads gives the story an hypnotic feel.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, its not a moving story, the plot is terribly obvious, the whole thing is even a little hammy. I was entertained, but not moved.

Any additional comments?

This is not an original storyline, its not supposed to be, I'm sure. Just enjoy a well performed classic Vampire story.

classic but not very nuanced vampire tale

LeFanu is a notable early horror author. and this novel is beautifully performed, but it is low on nuance and the direction of the plot is less foreshadowed than telegraphed.

Short, yet fun to read.

The story is simple, yet the characters drive it well. Actors' performances were all great and it left me wanting more in the end. My only regret is that the few creepy aspects of the story were a bit sparse.

Meh

I liked the performance and the ambiance created. The story was not as eventful as I hoped and rather obvious. Given how short this is, if it sounds like it is up your alley give it a try, if not then move along.

Listen while driving. A good start to a longer book. narration was very good. enjoyed.

Great Story, I'm not a fan of sound effects

I loved the story behind this, it was a great classic vampire story. I'm not as big of a fan of all the sound effects that audible put in, but the characters are cool, the book is short enough to listen to in one sitting, and I really enjoyed it.

Vampire story with the 10th doctor and Ygritte

Loved the story and the narration. The characters and the time they live in really come alive during this story. My favorite part is the beginning. I Listened to it in the dark and bevame so scared I turned it off.

A Wonderfully-Produced Classic Gothic Romance

This story remains a favorite of mine, and I was thrilled to see that it was produced as a dramatization through Audible. The voice acting is spot on, with narrative thrills to spare. (Even the conclusion left a particular thrill the book failed to give.)

(For anyone interested in getting the book on Kindle (highly recommend), I recommend getting the Scholarly Edition as it fills some holes and succeeds in deepening the story for the reader even more.)

Interesting, artsy, predictable

This was my first listen on audible, or any other listening app for that matter. It was interesting, but I often listen to audible when I drive or workout, and I’ll admit it was hard to stay focused on the story all the way through. Parts were interesting, but I found a couple plot points drag on and my interest lessened. The voice actors did a fantastic job, but the story was nothing to write home about.
