Publisher's summary

Dontay Walker had it rough growing up in the projects with a drug-addicted mother who forced him to become a man at the young age of 15. His father was a rolling stone, having multiple children with many women. Dontay always fought for his father's attention - until taking his spot became more important than gaining his love. Now, at the age of 30, Don is the leader of one of the most successful and most feared drug organizations in the city of Philadelphia. From the outside looking in, he appears to have it all - tons of money, respect, and women falling at his feet - but it all comes with a hefty price. He meets Desire, a biracial beauty, and instantly vows to make her his queen. Unfortunately, trouble is lurking, and Desire may not be the woman she claims to be.

A war ensues with a rival drug gang, and Dontay reigns supreme, but he begins to lose the tight grip he has on his organization as he struggles to find the person responsible for leaking details of his activities to the feds. With jealousy, envy, and revenge as motives, one of his most trusted understudies moves forward with a plan of takeover that quickly leaves Dontay without the things he's worked his whole life to attain.

In this fast-paced tale of deceit, nothing is what it seems, and Dontay learns that even his own family can't be trusted.

Not a book I would read or listen to again.

I had no real expectations but I did expect a good performance. The performance had pauses and the reader's swallowing was audible.. the voice of Desire struck my ear as being too high pitched. The story itself did not grip me. characters were introduced so quickly that I had to rewind to find out where they came in, who they were and how they fit in with the story.

Do not waste your money!

This is the worst book in this series so far. I pre-ordered, so disappointed.

Too much of the same sex scene!!

I expected so much more! Skipped from one character to another and missing so much of what happens to each character. Seemed rushed! What happened to Tracy? When did Desire enter the police academy? Why did Dante turn so evil and greedy when he was already at the top? The plot at the beginning of the book had so much potential, but then it just went all over the place leaving so much out! MAJOR DISSAPPOINTMENT!!!!

HORRIBLE

Would you try another book from Brittani Williams and/or the narrators?

Not sure. Leaning towards no for a couple of the narrators.

Any additional comments?

This was the absolute worst book of the serious. I couldn't even finish it. So disappointed. Thank goodness for Audible's return policy.

Strong start

I would like to see this book re-edited, then re-released. The plot had potential but the story was all over the place. So many questions were left unanswered. The timeline was out of sequence. I think I understand what the author was trying to do with the time sequence, but she didn't accomplish her goal. She made it very confusing. I kept replaying chapters thinking I might have missed something. Please try rewriting this book.

Good read

Confused because description does not match the book. Dontay was ruthless and heartless. Desire was a young girl that fell in love with the wrong man. You don't find out until the end that Desire and Dontay younger bother are cops. When did they become cops? You don't hear anything about their career as cops. Overall good story. I don't see how this will tie into final the Kingpins book

hard to listen to

I actually did like the story but one of the narrators tried way too hard to make the person that they were representing in the story extremely ghetto and the voice was supremely irritating other than that the book was pretty good FYI it was one of the female voices

Terrible narration

I don’t normally write reviews but the narration on this was awful. Sometime the characters would sound “surprised” or “happy” in situations that didn’t call for that type of voice. I also didn’t like that there were multiple Narrators for the different characters.
