Cahas Mountain chronicles the love, heartbreak, and redemption of Rhodessa Rose and Lily, two Appalachian women connected through duplicitous moonshiner Willard Grimes, who offers nothing but a mouthful of sweeness and broken promises.

Filled with big ambition, Willard courts and weds Rhodessa Rose in the shadows of Cahas Mountain. But his greed takes him into dangerous company and he runs his 'shine and evades the law.

Left alone by her philandering husband, gutsy Rhodessa Roses battles a tuberculosis edpidemic and her desire for the local sheriff against the shattering backdrop of World War II and its aftermath. Will Rhodess Rose rise to the challenge and deny her heart's desire, or will she give into the lust tham tempts her and the curse of moonshine's empty promises?

The author has created a masterful period piece set in Appalachian Virginia. Characters Rhodessa Rose, Willard Grimes, Lily, and Jethro Greer bloom against the the pastoral beauty of Cahas Mountain as their lives cross, twine, and sever over moonshine, bootlegging, Bliblical fundamentalism, and Depression-era economics - an engaging and compelling story.

This story was so well told. Not only is it loosely based on stories told to the author by her older relatives, but it perfectly depicts life in the mountains of Virginia during that time period. I kept listening for more, saying to myself," What happened next? "
I thought the narrator did a great job with both male and female voices and dialect, translating the 'dialect' spelling of the conversations into the audible form. Kudos to everyone!
