Bury Your Gays is a heart-pounding new novel from USA Today bestselling author Chuck Tingle about what it takes to succeed in a world that wants you dead.

"Brilliantly bloody, wildly fun, and extremely scary, Bury Your Gays brings a sledgehammer down on tired tropes and makes a masterpiece of their guts."—Rachel Harrison, national bestselling author of Black Sheep

Misha knows that chasing success in Hollywood can be hell.

But finally, after years of trying to make it, his big moment is here: an Oscar nomination. And the executives at the studio for his long-running streaming series know just the thing to kick his career to the next level: kill off the gay characters, "for the algorithm," in the upcoming season finale.

Misha refuses, but he soon realizes that he’s just put a target on his back. And what’s worse, monsters from his horror movie days are stalking him and his friends through the hills above Los Angeles.

Haunted by his past, Misha must risk his entire future—before the horrors from the silver screen find a way to bury him for good.

Interview: Why Chuck Tingle’s new horror novel, "Bury Your Gays," is so dang good

Editorial Review

A new meaning to “leaping off the page”
The best horror stories surprise and subvert as they scare—and there’s only so much I can say about Chuck Tingle’s latest novel without giving the thrill of that experience away. I’ll say this: If you love campy stories that still have heart, have been in your glory in this age of whip-smart, socially conscious horror, or have ever yelled, “Just kiss already!” at a clearly queer-coded duo on your TV screen, this one is for you. I adored Tingle’s 2023 horror debut, Camp Damascus, but as a queer film & TV geek, Bury Your Gays, with its nods to pop culture and meta moments, spoke to my soul. Perfectly paced to induce that creeping dread we horror weirdos crave, it’s a little bit Jordan Peele, a little It Follows, a little X-Files—and 100 percent Chuck. André Santana’s lively, earnest performance is reason enough to listen to this one, but there’s another special treat: cameos from Mara Wilson (Camp Damascus), Georgia Bird (many, many Tinglers), as well as a slew of SFF writers (Charlie Jane Anders, TJ Klune, Stephen Graham Jones, to name a few). — Sam D., Audible Editor

Lo que los oyentes dicen sobre Bury Your Gays

Con calificación alta para:

The Audiobook "bury Your Gays" By Chuck Tingle Is Praised For Its Thrilling Horror Story, Engaging Character Development Of The Protagonist Misha, Clever Twists And Reveals, Witty And Intelligent Writing Style, And Emotional Depth In Exploring Lgbtq+ Themes And Experiences. However, Some Reviewers Found The Ending Anticlimactic, A Supporting Character Underdeveloped, And Certain Plot Elements Predictable. The Major Themes Revolve Around Lgbtq+ Representation In Media, Queer Trauma, Corporate Greed And Capitalism, The Dangers Of Unchecked Ai, And The Conflict Between Artistic Integrity And Commercialism. Overall, It Is Commended As A Thought-provoking And Resonant Horror Novel That Deftly Blends Scares With Social Commentary.

The hype is real.

What’s so special about a masked author in a bright pink suit? I asked myself going into this that very question. As this year’s StokerCon was happening and I started seeing the pics roll in, I kept witnessing friend tout Chuck Tingle.

That’s when I began looking into his titles and came across Bury Your Gays.

This is a wonderful story that doesn’t beat the reader about the head and shoulders with the sexuality aspect of the main character. It’s a well written, thought provoking story with wonderful characters who happen to be part of LGBTQIA+ community. It shows that we are simply humans trying to live our lives. The book also addresses some very real queer issues.

I want to thank my friends for introducing me to Chuck Tingle. I’ll be reading more of his stuff. Maybe we will even meet at a convention some day.

an unpredictable delight

This was my first Tingle book ever, after many years of recommendations to read him by my friends. I expected to live it, and I truly do!

INSANELY good audiobook

This was an INSANELY good audiobook!

I am not typically a horror reader, but this story was so much more than that, and had me completely hooked. (So grateful for this month’s book club pick taking me out of my reading comfort zone.)

With Misha being a scriptwriter, the literary perspective, explanation and understanding of the horror genre on top of the horrific story that unfolded made for a gripping, engaging read.

The sections of the book that were written and read as a piece of a script with full cast and graphic audio truly set this one apart for me. I was emotional one moment, disgusted and horrified, while mildly humored, the next.

The underlying theme of the true horror that is queer erasure in Hollywood was handled expertly, and points were made.

Chuck may make a horror reader out of me yet. (Okay, maybe not, but I’m definitely more open to, and appreciative of, the genre!)

Not what I expected, but I enjoyed it.

This book is a love letter to writing horror and to the LGBTQIA+ community. I liked how it combined real-world themes with goofy fictional situations. It shared its message without feeling preachy.
If you are a fan of horror or of queer joy, then you should read Bury Your Gays.

Solid horror

This was a solid horror with enjoyable characters. I could have done without so many narrators but I still had fun with this.

A celebration of queer joy by a beloved author

This book was a helluva wild ride! The narration was excellent, which really made the novel shine, but the writing itself was the real hero here.

HECK YES

Another amazing horror novel from man name of Chuck. Thank you so much, Chuck, for writing stories about people like me.

Y’all, it’s so good. Chuck is a great writer, and the narration was amazing. The production was also very cool, sound effects were done well, it all fit perfectly. Loved everything about this book! Can’t wait to read more now that he’s got a book deal for four more in-universe novels. A+++++ highly recommend.

LOVE IS REAL

Chuck Tingle writes another incredible queer horror. This book was so we'll paced and set up the twists so beautifully! I immediately wanted to listen to it again.

Non-pandering queer fun!

At its heart this is a story of how queer people are often trapped by their own trauma both internally and externally. Great story and characters for the most part. The writing felt fresh and smart without overcomplicating things. I’m usually VERY good at guessing twists and resolutions, but this kept me in the dark until the big reveals. The bits read as screen plays were hella confusing until everything clicked. Misha and Tara were of course the standouts here with honorable mentions to The Smoker and Jack Hays. I didn’t really buy Zeke and Misha’s relationship, and Zeke felt more like a plot bridge than a full fledged character. The dialogue in some places could’ve been more concise but not enough to deter me from reading on. The narrative performance was A+. 9/10 would recommend.
