Publisher's Summary

Detective Drake Lewis is tough, focused, and unbending. He has no problem keeping his workaholic professional life completely separate from his lonely personal life. Drake has never met a man who could pull him from his job.

Until he does.

Liam Walters is a construction foreman with a painful past. He’s happy with himself and what his life has become. When his path once again crosses with Drake’s, Liam is willing to take whatever Drake can offer him.

For now.

Buried Secrets is a stand-alone male/male romance with suspenseful elements. This story has bits and pieces of opposites-attract, hurt/comfort, and redeemed by love tropes. Trigger warning: This story has the mention of childhood trauma.

Buried Secrets

Buried Secrets is an enjoyable murder mystery with a side of steamy romance. This book does cover childhood trauma and may not be for everyone. Liam, a construction foreman, is just trying to do his job when a body is found at the job site. Drake is the detective assigned to the case and when he crosses paths again with Liam they decide to see what could happen. Liam and Drake have wonderful chemistry and I enjoyed them together as they try to find a killer before more bodies start stacking up.
Narrator Christopher Solon does a marvelous job. He really brought the characters to life and made the book better.

Heartwarming story of love

I loved this story of two men who are attractive to each other, finding love when they aren't looking for a commitment due to two different reasons. The love scenes are tender, sensual, and off of the charts explosive. The story has great plot and character development that will have you glued to this tale. A serial killer is also on the loose who will threaten these men. Thank you, A. D. Ellis, for giving me a story that grabbed my heart from the beginning and only got better throughout the book.

Christopher Solon made a remarkable story even better with his narration. He made me feel the emotions of these characters and brought the story to life. I love when a narrator puts so much heart into his work. I highly recommend this Audible book. My only regret is that I can't give it more than five stars for the overall score.

Good story!💜

This was a good story and even though it took me a minute to get into it, I did enjoy it. It has a mystery suspense element which I love, but IMO I felt it focused a lot on sex. The sex was hot, and the chemistry was good and the characters faced real life issues. The narration wasn’t bad, however it was a little choppy. Christopher has a great voice that was well suited for these characters.

Sexy Thriller

Plot: Mystery/suspense with romance - reminiscent of those fun thrillers from the 80s and 90s, but with a happy ending
Feels: Was on the edge of my seat not knowing who to suspect at the beginning, especially when I thought it was only Drake’s POV; Heart-breaking moments with a couple of backstories.
Drama: Liam’s first blowup fight with Drake, though Liam quickly resolved it himself with the best inner monologue
Heat: 4/5 - lots of smexy times
Characters: So glad Drake got over his aversion to commitment, and Liam was definitely the better choice!
Pacing: Good flow
Length: Just right
Ending: HEA
Performance: Great solid narration

Drake comes full circle...

I must say in the beginning I wasn't feeling this story too much and I guess I would blame that on Drake. He had too many issues, wasn't all that likeable and he didn't treat Liam right(like a sex toy. This is the first in awhile I didn't want the two main characters together but the more and more the story went on I began to bent a little. Liam is what Drake needed and vice versa. You see Drake come full circle and I like it. The background story that is going on throughout the guys romance was thrilling and kept you guessing almost until the end.Christopher Solon did a marvelous job with the narration. Loved the emotion and the intensity he put in the characters...plus I love his voice...All in all I enjoyed this...had me all in my feelings and had me with a big smile at the end with the guys HEA. Sweet!

I received a free audible and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Romantic mystery

I received this audio book for free. I love a murder mystery romance. A.D. Ellis is a new author for me and I liked the story and the characters. I liked following Drakes progress with solving the murders. It was fate that brought Liam back in his life. It was so darn sweet how Drake fell in love with Liam. I kind of wish the story wasn't over yet because I am not ready to let these guys go yet. Guess I will have to see what other books I can find by this author.

Worth the read.

Trigger warnings: past child abuse and sexual assault mentioned, child witnessing a murder mentioned.

I liked the narrator. Give me gruff voices all day.

Drake and Liam both have had traumatic childhoods. Drake's resulted in becoming a dedicated workaholic as a homicide detective who likes to keep his personal life private, he rarely seems to be happy. Liam's resulted in eventually becoming as normal as most. He loves his job and he doesn't hide who he is. After a one night stand (that happened before the book starts) both are surprised to run into each other at a construction site Liam is overseeing the work too that turns into a crime scene Drake is investigating. Coffee leads to quickie and an arrangement. Liam already knows he wants more but will take what he can get from Drake, for now. When the hook ups turn into dates and become more frequent the arrangement changes into something more. But the case Drake is working where there's a serial killer that targets child molesters who keep getting around the law is actually causing problems between Drake and Liam. Wanting the relationship to work but having a difficult time seeing the others POV is starting to tear them apart. But when Liam is in danger Drake has to mix his boxes of private and personal life.

I liked the book. I kinda figured out who the killer was but the relationship drama kinda makes you question how it would end. The steamy scenes in this book, though plentiful, seem to be more or less the same. When I thought about it though that's more realistic anyways. They were still steamy scenes. The relationship drama also wasn't one of those simple misunderstandings that blew up to an unrealistic problem. It was a problem that actually made sense that a couple would actually need to work out and work through. Which is a nice change.

Could have had more mystery

What starts as a one night stand changes when Drake and Liam are brought together at a crime scene. Drake is not exactly in the closet but he isn’t really out either. Liam wants more. As the investigation progresses Drake gets reasons to come out. Liam having been abused as a child, has to face what he knows is right and what’s wrong when the bodies add up of the child abusers. I enjoyed the romance with the mystery. I don’t feel there is really much mystery to the story and wish there had been more. I did enjoy how the relationship developed. I think Christopher Solon did an excellent job of narrating this story and bringing these characters to life.

Drake, Liam and a murder case

Buried Secrets is my first book by A. D. Ellis and as a detective fan I liked it.
The writing style is fluid and loose and as a listener you are quick in the story.

Detective Drake Lewis is a workoholic and gay. But his colleagues don’t know that and Drake wants to keep it that way.
During a new case, Drake meets Liam Walters, who is openly gay. The two start a hot affair. As more and more bodies are found, the suspicion that the killer is close enough is confirmed. Will Drake solve the case in time?

Drake and Liam are likeable characters. The chemistry between the two fits right from the start and they start a hot affair. Liam is sincere and lovable, Drake on the other hand has a rough way at first, but is just as lovable.
I really liked the mix of a crime novel and a love story, because the murder case creates a certain tension and the romance is not neglected either.

The audio book was narrated by Christopher Solon and he did a good job of bringing the characters to life. You could tell the different voices quite well.

I can recommend the audiobook to everyone. It is well written and well narrated, exciting and romantic.

Beautiful

So I am currently fixing up my driveway, its hard work and has so far taken me 20 or so hours with about the same still to go, the 5 hours that I spent working on it and listening to this book was the fastest that time has gone since starting this work. The characters felt real they had depth and intrigue. The storyline was sad, compelling and tight. This is one talented author.

Great narration!

I need to confess that I have read just a very few books written by A.D. Ellis, but I am always amazed by the style and general outline of her stories. This book is not exception and the captivating plot, kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time, with a very witty mystery to solve while Liam and Drake found their path together. Besides the engaging story, the narration is simply wonderful. Mr Solon made an amazing job with balancing out the interesting plot and the banter and interactions of the characters in a very skillful narration. I loved the way he uses his great talent to bring alive these characters, and hearing them telling us their lives was a treat. A great narration of a wonderful book!

Neither fish nor fowl

The blurb for this m/m romance story described the content very aptly when it stated it has bits and pieces of and with elements of this, that and the other. It led you to believe the police procedural aspect would get some substance along the line since it was the framework for the story but it never got going. The Detective Drake Lewis is working the case of murders connected to construction sites where he reconnects with Liam Walters, a site foreman and a past hook-up. This leads to renewed steamy encounters that begin to evolve into them starting to get to know each other better. Their evolving relationship gets entangled in the murder investigation which isn't described at all apart from repeated descriptions of mounting pressure and how hard Drake is working with his team, who are not mentioned at all in procedural context. A moral dilemma is thrown in for good measure to add more themes to this mix. Drake and Liam are flawed but likeable characters and their story could be better with committing fully to a genre - be it police procedural, or recovery from emotional trauma and building of a relationship. Narrator Christopher Solon did a good job with characterisation, making it easy to distinguish who was talking and the narration was clear and pleasant to listen to.

Enjoyed the mystery and romance

Drake is a hard working detective who is content with hookups, oh, and he is not out at work. Liam, out and proud, is also not looking for commitment. That changes when they meet again at a crime scene (though they don't know it).
The story is aptly named, with murder bring said secrets to the forefront. I enjoyed that aspect - the murder/mystery. I also found myself wondering if these 2 men would bend sufficiently to make a go of starting a romance. You'll have to listen/read the book to find out 😀

I really enjoy listening to Christopher Solon. He has a great voice, it's easy to know who's talking and how the characters are feeling - this narration was no different. Always a pleasue to listen to his work. Definitely recommend the story and narration!

A murder mystery with romance

We meet a police detective Drake Lewis, whose a black and white and no grey areas type of policeman.

Liam, a construction foreman, has a brutal, abusive history that lets him sees grey areas. When he meets Drake, things become complicated. One, Drake doesn't do relationships and emotions, Two, Drake doesn't know whether Liam is implicated in his latest murder cases.

This book took me a while to settle into, but I have to say it all happens in the second half of the book, then I was hooked.

This book is well written, hurt/comfort, hot and fun., childhood abuse and trauma are mentioned, but we get a HEA.

Good narration from Christopher Solon, this is my second audio recorded by him, and I loved both. I now need to hunt out more of his recordings. Very easy to listen to. Although, like usual, I sped up the audio, and I listened at 1.25 speed on audible, but I do prefer all my audios to be a little quicker.

Crime suspense plot with romance on the side.

Both Drake ( detective) and Liam (construction foreman) have been damaged in their own way when they have met before and find out they want to be more. This is all set against a murder investigation.
The narration is well done and the voices are distinct and pleasant to listen to.

A good story

It felt like a random episode of a good criminal series. Good but it didn’t hit me deep.

I think I hoped for the relation between Liam and Drake to evolve and grow around the case. But even if they both in different way were connected to the crimes their relationship was a separate story.

Christopher Solon did a good job with different voices to easy separate the different characters.
