The search for wisdom has been the pole-star of humanity for 6,000 years. Religions have come and gone, philosophies have failed, but those surviving wells of wisdom go deep and yield sweet refreshment for the soul.
Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Zen, and Eastern Christian writings have served as pathways to peace and enlightenment, but the path is not easily traveled. Wisdom is a harsh master, demanding authenticity and truth. No self-delusion or protection will be tolerated. The seeker must be spiritually eviscerated. Mind and soul must be laid bare. Toward this end, pilgrims have followed teachings within a handful of ancient books. Here, for the sake of those seeking the path of enlightenment and liberation, we will look at two the greatest books of Eastern wisdom, The Dhammapada - Buddhism’s path of dharma and The Gateless Gate - Sacred writings of Zen Buddhism.

But there is a problem: True happiness in the sense that Buddha achieved is difficult. In the many years that I practiced meditation, I realized that it makes perfect sense to gather the most prolific and valuable quotes from Buddha. These quotes are inspirational.

An Okay Treatment of a Primary Buddhist Text
Keep in mind, this is a religious text … not exactly edge of your seat drama.
A basic treatment of one of the founding documents of buddhist tradition. While I appreciated the ability to listen instead of try to read this text, I just admit to being at a disadvantage with respect to full comprehension being more at home in western religious traditions. This are the somewhat limited commentary provided less effective, so if you are looking for a more detailed understanding I was recommend finding something with considerably more commentary; however, for my purposes, it was a decent start on a text I have always wanted to read.
I was given this free advance review/listener copy (ARC) audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
