Mystery within the Art World

An interesting mystery surrounding art stolen during World War II by Germany and the rediscovery of this delightful cache of art. In the art world, one must deal with dealers, critics, museum directors, and others who handle art for a variety of reasons. We are given an inside look into the people and that art can be hidden in plain sight.

The author, Alice Goldfarb Marquis delivers a delightful tale of mystery in the art world. She also reveals the lives and attitudes of the experts, not all favorably! As a writer, this is not her usual genre but she delivers a vivid and realistic portrait of those who move in the art world. Art is not what it always seems to be, sometimes the true art is hidden just below the paint or in an out-of-the-way storage spot. Either way, this is a mystery that proves to not only be entertaining but captivating.

The narrator, Virginia Ferguson provides a wonderfully nuanced performance capturing the spirit of both the author and the characters. She is very skilled at the various accents and enhances the story through her performance. She spoke clearly and with a steady cadence.

I enjoyed the story but more so now that I understand Mrs. Marquis’ opinion towards those in the art world, the tongue in cheek is wonderfully delightful!
