An angel and a demon walk into a bar....

Join Rae and Bell as they share a drink and pass the time talking shop at the local dive bar as the Angel and Demon of Death. The war has raged for centuries but despite their differences, and their respective sides of the demilitarized zone in the mortal plane, they are one in the celestial bond of the Brothers.

Briefly creates an interesting universe that needs expanding.

Brother’s Last Call was an interesting novelette from an aspiring writer. The concept of angels, fallen angels, and their relationship with “seconds” is a good one and a few mini-stories are laid out in unapologetically terrifying manner. It left me wanting to learn more about the universe which is created, given the rich amount of past and history that is hinted throughout. If this type of genre is your thing, it’s worth checking out.

Great listen on a drive home from work.

The story is based around two rivals reminiscing over souls of mortals they fought to save or damn. I truly enjoyed this work and the narration was great. I was lost within the world and story for a time and look forward to more.

Not usually a fan of short stories

Great attention to detail and very well written. I want to hear more of the angel and demon’s story.

A great listen!

For some reason, I had flashes from Supernatural, and Frailty, while listening to this book. Classic tale of good and evil where the good breaks the rules to redeem someone and the evil would still express their love to someone who banished them. Very, very well written.

Interesting

I thought this was a very interesting story. I enjoyed hearing perspectives from both sides of good and evil. The voice actor did a fantastic job, even switching between character voices. I would highly recommend.

Belongs on the big screen

Great characters, great story, and definitely should be a series in the making. Will not disappoint you the least.

A great introduction to this world

Brother's Last Call was something of an unexpected delight for me. Having read or listened to Freeman's other work, this one caught me by surprise. This is more of a treatise on the nature of good and evil using beings outside of human ethics to create a conversation on what is moral and what is not. For example, the angel and the demon bring up stories of their interactions from the past and how they affected different humans' lives. Through these stories and conversations, you can see why both beings would hate humans, their actions, and their mindsets, but both go about interacting in different ways.

From listening to this tale, I think this would serve as a great introduction into a longer work, and I would love to see these characters and their relationship, as well as the expanded pantheon of other angels and demons.

As for the performance, the narrator does a good job. He fits with the voice of the characters and his read rate is fast enough to keep a good pace while at the same time reading it slowly enough to get all the words and keep the story dramatic.

Kept me wanting more

This book was a great read. I got lost in the story and was devastated when it was over. My only complaint was there wasn’t 10 more books waiting for me to read about the characters I grew to love.

Great story to a first volume!

My only complaint is I want more lol. The two angels of death in the story have a storied past that I’m sure could be expanded on. Their relationship plays out like a family feud, with them caught in the middle. They don’t agree, but despite opposing beliefs and opposing factions, they do care for each other.
