Publisher's Summary

A dazzling urban satire of modern human relations? An ironic, tragic insight into the demise of the nuclear family? Or the confused ramblings of a pissed thirty-something? The third installment in Bridget Jones' journey, Mad About the Boy, will be out in October 2013.

Critic Reviews

"A brilliant evocation of life as a single girl in a certain time... reads like Anita Loos out of Jane Austen, and any woman who has ever had a job, a relationship or indeed a mother will read it and roar" ( The Times)
"I cannot recommend a book more joyfully... Hilariously funny, miraculously observed, endlessly touching" ( Daily Telegraph)
"Wild comedy... observed with merciless, flamboyant wit. A gloriously funny book" ( Sunday Times)

Still wonderful!

Have read this book half a dozen times and this is my first foray into Bridget's world on audio. Exactly the right voice for this entertaining character. Still laughed aloud at bits that I've read many times. Highly recommended.

A laugh

If you could sum up Bridget Jones's Diary in three words, what would they be?

Everyday singelton fun!

What other book might you compare Bridget Jones's Diary to and why?

I know that it is surpose to be a modern retelling of Pride and Prejudices, but somehow I fell like that comparison takes something away from the finesse of Helen Fieldings book.

Any additional comments?

I love the movie, but every time I read the book I remember just how much more it brings to the story. So If you like the movie - read the book, not because it is better by leaps, but it really brings more to the world of Bridget Jones!

What made the experience of listening to Bridget Jones's Diary the most enjoyable?

the narrator sounds exactly like a Bridget would, as well as the Mother and even the guys. She does a superb job, incredible acting talent. The book jumps off the earphones :)

Hmmm

I forgot how much women were required to hate themselves in the 90s.
Yikes.
Cute story, but I'm glad feminism has moved forward.

Just plain fun!

Have you listened to any of Imogen Church’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not listening to Imogene Church before this, but absolutely loved her Bridget.

Any additional comments?

I've read this book several times, usually following some other heavy tome I wanted to rinse from my head. It's just a good bit of fun, certainly not intellectual, but a light-hearted way to pass time. And, if you think about it, you either know someone who somehow resembles Bridget or maybe you see a little of yourself in her.

LOVE

This narrator does a fantastic job - she has a distinct tone for each character. I enjoyed both the book and the movie immensely, but I was skeptical as to whether the audio book would be worth my while - IT WAS!!! Cannot recommend highly enough. I laughed out loud and felt like Bridget was a very good friend once again.

Classic book

Always loved this book, and was very excited to have an unabridged audiobook available. Superbly narrated by Imogen Church. A modern retelling of Pride and Prejudice incorporating the neurotic thoughts of a single thirtysomething women just looking for happiness. Warm and charming and laugh out loud funny - a fantastic piece of escapist fiction.

Very Funny

If you could sum up Bridget Jones's Diary in three words, what would they be?

Very amusing entertainment

Would you be willing to try another book from Helen Fielding? Why or why not?

Yes. I really enjoyed listening to it

Have you listened to any of Imogen Church’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I haven't. But I will certainly start looking for more of her performed readings. She's amazing

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed out loud several time, and smirked quite a lot

Any additional comments?

I had watched the movie so pretty much knew what was going to happen, but I still enjoyed listening to it very much, thanks to the several situations the heroine got herself into and to the amazing performance of Imogen Church.

superbly funny - story and narration

Would you consider the audio edition of Bridget Jones's Diary to be better than the print version?

I never read the print version, its only because it was available in audio that I actually read/listen to the book. Would not read the book as like my memory of Imogen doing Bridget

What other book might you compare Bridget Jones's Diary to, and why?

Bridget JOnes Diary - Edge of Reason, as they are part of the same series. Haven't read/listened to any other books like this

Have you listened to any of Imogen Church’s other performances? How does this one compare?

As above, but I intend to listen to more of her work - totally amazed by her performances - superb

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Here she goes again

Any additional comments?

thanks to Imogen's amazing narration, I now prefer her version of Bridget to the famous Renee Zelwegger's film version of her charactor

Not a book for the middle aged.

when I first read this 25 years ago I laughed till I cried. listening to it as a middle aged woman with grown up children I realised the protagonist was in fact boring, facile and the incessant focus on her weight being under 9 stone was seriously worrying. it may be a period piece but I'm so glad that I don't think.like this now and am pretty certain I never did!

Amusing but Dated

Bridget was so obsessed with her weight it was awful, every diary entry starts with her talking about her weight which is depressing and repetitive and boring. The fact that she feels fat being over 9 stone is horrific and Daniel is such a dick I found it unbelievable that she could care so much about him. Disappointing.

Rather entertaining

Bridget Jones's Diary is an entertaining, often funny story. Coupled with Imogen Church's narration, the audiobook feels like you are experiencing the frustrations of being a single woman in the late 90s with a sharp and witty outlook on the pressures this comes with from people in Bridget's immediate circle. However, I feel like this book gives in to stereotypes like Bridget's constant recordings of her weight and calorie intake and calorie intake, the obsessive need of having a boyfriend and the unhealthy relationship with eating chocolate to deal with emotions which lets it down quite a bit. Despite its flaws, I felt entertained enough to want to continue listening/reading the Bridget Jones series and a need to rewatch the film. I would say that Bridget Jones's Diary is a must-read for fans of comedic chick-lit but not so much for those who are wanting something a bit more feminist.

The perfect reader for a perfect book.

Although having read the novel many years ago and watched the movie, I still found this to be immensely enjoyable. The real world humanity of Bridget is something that we all have, but hide from everyone but our closest friends.
