Publisher's Summary

The Timber Valley pack has a terrible reputation. Word is their males are dominant, kinky, and possessive - and Josephine's best friend from college is being forced to marry one? No way!

Curvy wolf shifter Josephine Southpaw's got the perfect solution. Using a magic charm, she'll disguise herself as the slender, beautiful Camille on her wedding day - while Camille hightails it out of town with the wolf she really loves. Of course, the Alpha will ditch Josephine the second he gets her back to the wedding suite and sees what his chubby bride really looks like. What could possibly go wrong?

Well, for starters, Alpha Maxwell Battle is smokin' hot. And he takes one look at Josephine and vows to never let her go - but he's going to punish her for her trickery in deliciously sexy ways. And finally, Josephine's friends keep staging well-intentioned rescue attempts, but she's no longer sure she wants to be rescued.

But Josephine's not the only one with secrets. It soon becomes very clear that Maxwell's hiding something big, a secret that puts not only Josephine's heart but her life at risk.

Good Shifter Story

Well I took a chance and tried a new shifter book, and I loved it! The storyline was refreshing with a great Hero and Herione. The only drawback was the time. It was only around 4 hours. That's a little short for me, but its hard finding a good shifter book so on to the next one!! You cant really go wrong with Maxine Mitchell, I wish more writters understood that the narrator can make or break the book. She totally nailed it!

Just wow!

I love this series I've read it through twice now! It gets better every time I do! In the first book I like that we get an in depth look at the timber valley wolf pack. Maxwell is more than meets the eye as Josephine comes to realize. He sees right through her from day one when she tries to pose as her friend to marry Maxwell. He definitely likes what he sees and has lots of dirty wonderful plans for his new bride. This book had it all twists and turns, heartfelt moments and even a bit of mystery to some characters! I won't spoil it for you but I definitely recommend you get this book and all of the series cause I know I couldn't put them down and I bet you won't either!

needs dual narration.

The first chapter almost made me drop it, but it got better quickly. Narration was great for the female voices, but all the male voices by the female narrator soundedd like 15 year old boys, or Rudolph from the Christmas special. From the cover picture of our hero, I expected a more manly voice. The story was good and easy to follow, and had a good amount of intrigue fort a short book. The steam was ancillary and didn't fit in the story line - should either be expanded or dropped. I was able to guess some of the plot too early, but otherwise we'll written.

Worth taking the time to listen.

Tolerable narrator, well laid out plot, well developed characters. Be prepared to love the Battle clan and all their quirks.

Enjoyed this book immensely. Light consensual kink

Short but enjoyed it. Happy to find it as a series of books. Appreciate the plus-size strong female leads!

A cute quick read

It was short and sweet. I loved Maximus the most. The female lead had way too many trust issues and was too hung up on her weight.

Needs more

It is a good quick listen but I need more development and details. I wish it was longer and had more time to develop the characters.

I miss GSC’s earlier Fluff

This is supposed to be light, fluff reading and the storyline starts that way with Josephine posing as the Bride in place of Camille, but Alpha Maxwell takes the switch in stride. Then it goes dark. Camille’s step uncle is the abusive Alpha of her previous pack and there’s also political and magical corruption going on. Josephine and Maxwell’s very lives are at risk. Sheesh
The good news is Mitchell’s narration. She does a great job, same as her contemporary urban romances. This makes 12 Mitchell narrations in my library.

So so

The storyline was kind of lame; the narrator used the same male voice for all male characters and it was a bit irritating. Will not follow this series.

Cringe a-hoy

It took me about 2 days to get an hour into this story and then I just couldn't anymore. First of the names, they are so stupid I laughed out loud when I heard them, "Southpaw"? Really? Then the hyper focus on food and the fact that the female lead is fat just got obnoxious. I'm all for diversity of sizes in stories but why point it out all the time. I lost track of who was who with the flat and uninspired dialogue and the lack of voice variety from the narrator. Speaking of which, the narrator was ok, not great but not the worst I've heard. I'm happy this book was free so I didn't spend a credit or money on it.

Not at all what I expected

I thought this was going to be a total enemies to lovers trope, which I suppose to some extent, it was. But it was also so much more. Within the 5hrs or so of this book, Ms St. Clair managed to essentially fit three different storylines in. The main story of the h protecting her friend by pretending to be her, and then a side story with the 2 other friends and then finally the big political showdown at the end.

I was gripped from minute one. And all the stories were wrapped up nicely. I suppose maybe I'd like to know what becomes of the friend and her mate, but maybe that left open for a future a book.

This book has left me with a goofy smile on face. It was well written and well performed.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Clever story with a great twist

I’ve listened to a few Georgette St Clair stories now and I’d recommend this one as a great starting point for anyone new to this genre.

It’s not only a well told and well narrated story it’s got a great story line with a twist I couldn’t work out. Great dialogue easy to listen to - compulsive actually - and some steamy scenes. It’s great feel-good loose yourself in story and now I’m going to continue this series.

over the top - dnf 30%

I've read more than 150 shifter romance books, and I wouldn't recommend this one unfortunately. The heroine is whiny, the erotic scenes weren't sexy. There is little character development, or romance build up. Disappointing overall

I couldn't finish it

I got to halfway, still hoping the story would get less cringworthy but it didn't and I couldn't bring myself to listen any longer. Even in the world of shifters and alphas and strong heroines the story got too unbelievable. There were some great story points that kept me wanting more, like the fact that the heroine was a bigger girl and selfless, but they were so few and far between and repeated too often that I couldn't keep listening.
Also if you're not into BDSM then this book isn't for you.
The narration was ok, if the story had been better I would've put up with my slight dislike of the narration.

captivating

it's an incredible story from start to end.
the characters are realistic and the voice actor was as phenomenal as all her other work.
the storyline itself was an interesting twist on shifter genre and not at all cliche like other shifter books.
it will not disappoint.

Feminist’s beware.

For starters, feminist doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy bdsm. While it’s not my taste, I respect the choice.
However, a supposedly strong woman who not only accepts this in the bedroom, but supposedly changes enough to accept in public.
While she argues some things, she always backs down and apologises.

Absolutely no one in authority is female.

An alpha must ‘control’ his wife, she is ‘owned’ by him, and must say it.

Yeah it’s some peoples kink, but not mine. I really wish synopses would state the type of story.
I’ve read others from this author and they were not of this style.

There was one moment at the end that was worth celebrating, but for me, too little, too late.
It’s a perfect Disney endings, cringe included.

Outside of alpha-assholness, it’s a fun story, some dialogue cringe, but otherwise decent.

The narrator is great at female voices, but unable to provide differences in the males. I have no idea who is speaking until after they’ve been identified.

Good narration.

AUDIBLE REVIEW
Good narration. Increases by one star rating.
Especially due to the amount of sex in this book. I had to wonder how the narrator kept from laughing at some points.
I must say I did enjoy listening to this story as it has been years since I read it.
Though I purchased this book in 2014 I cannot get the audible version discounted so listened though Audible Plus.
BOOK REVIEW
Okay but not the best by this author.
Started okay but just didn’t improve enough to make it enjoyable. I also wasn’t keen on this shifter world with its archaic laws and rules.
Went a bit slow in the middle and then raced at the end.
I did enjoy how this played out and glad the old brigade of Elders was replaced with hopefully a broader thinking group.
Bought read and reviewed in 2014 but original review is missing.

Really Good

Josephine Southpaw meets Maxwell Battle when she uses a magical charm to pretend she is her friend to marry Max in her place to protect and help her friend. What follows is an interesting set of events with numerous people doing good and bad things all over the place and in the midst of it all Josephine and Max are falling for each other. There is some scorching hot sex in the mix of a story that kept me interested all the way. I recommend this book it was well worth the listen.

Well worth it!

Nicely done Georgette, listened in one sitting was funny and had enough naughty wolves to make one blush… not a traditional wolf in mind speak kinda novel but fun to read with a nice twist ;) the narration was really quirky and engaging easy to listen to… only thing to add was a little more into other characters would have been good … also would LOVE to see what happens next in another story following the pack…especially with the scientist’s involved
If your looking for a relatively quick book with a decent story to have a few chuckles and not just steaming kinky bits (though there’s enough of those in there if that matters) then it’s worth it

Not for everyone

Some challenging scenes. I get that these characters are shifters/wolves and packs, but the violence and domination represented within are complex issues presented here by very simple characters. Other authors do a better job of strong sexy female characters and male ones too (e.g. Sarah J. Mass). Some readers might enjoy, I did not. Only saw it through to the end to see what happened and it was free.

Not her best work.

Sections of this book have too much coercion for consent to be present. I can see how this leads many reviews to criticise the writing.

I’ve read & enjoyed other books by Georgette & this feels like immature in comparison which is a shame as the storyline has strong potential.

Re-write please
