Story
The beautiful and alluring Tammy Rankin and her brother Andy were positively grief-stricken when their well-to-do father died of a fatal heart attack. In fact, their grief was intensified when they realized that their young stepmother stood to inherit his vast fortune; that is, unless they could somehow suggest foul play and pin a murder rap on the woman. They obviously needed to enlist the services of someone who was totally devoid of any amount of scruples whatsoever.

The start of something great...

Publisher's Summary
According to the police report, the attractive, blue-eyed blonde had been shot to death in her apartment at around 7:30 p.m.
Then how was it possible that nearly 50 people saw her dining and dancing at a nearby club over three hours later?
Set in the late 1980s, the third Brett Cornell novel finds the studly private detective surrounded by the usual bevy of beautiful women, as well as a few seedy characters who foolishly decide to butt heads with the supreme unscrupulous bastard himself.
But Brett's road to victory isn't easy, especially when he receives a frantic call for help, which leads to his being severely beaten right outside his office building and, later, being held and threatened at gunpoint.
Soon, bullets start flying, fists start flying - and even a sledgehammer is used - in one of the most violent cases of his career, before Brett finally wins!

Brett is a gift to all womenkind
In the Authors finest work in the Brett series the story has crisp writing and a great deal of biting wit.
Yeah this dude invented the word Testosterone it oozes out every pore of this epitome of the Macho Man.
His charisma and sexual power reverberates through every alley and street of New England with creatures of
the female persuasion ovulating and hungary for his carnal pleasures.
Boy it must be great being Brett and may the Author and the Narrator of this fun series live on forever.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

The most awesome book ever.
I've listened to hundreds if not thousands of Audiobooks and none of them can compare when it comes to how much I enjoyed it.
The author couldn't have chosen a better narrator which have done such a great job ( perfection ).
This book is pure fun there is no other way to describe it ! I can't wait to listen to the rest of the series which I've noticed that even so it's a series each book is a stand alone book so there is no need to read them in the order that they where writing, which is a big plus.
Just one thing, if you do get this book get ready for laughter and lack of sleep plus an addiction for the series ( a federal warning )
Brett is an addictive substance!
Seriously there is absolutely nothing bad that I can say here only maybe that five stars are not enough.
Get this book you'll love every moment of it !
Guaranteed !!!!

Top shelf Sociopath Noir!
Being the third book in this series I've listened to, (and I'm thoroughly addicted) I'm picking up on certain things that make these books so solid. Besides being well-written and really funny, they have theme and message; Bad people do bad things, and good people do bad things. One reason Brett, a profoundly bad guy, is a compelling hero, is he is simultaneously the most dishonest and honest character in these stories. And like he tells his girlfriend in this book, you know exactly what he is, and what you're getting into. My advice: see Brett for the literary creation he is, and get into it!

Funniest Brett Cornell Mystery Yet!
I've listened to the whole Brett Cornell series and this is definitely my favorite one so far! Travis Henry Carter is back with amazing narration and Daniel D'Aguanno truly write a hilarious and great story! I just love Bretts mannerisms and how he only thinks of himself all the time. Great addition to the series and I can't wait to read another one!

Handsome Is As Handsome Does
Perfectly narrated by Travis Henry Carter, this noir wannabe features a main character so smugly obnoxious . . . fill in the blank! Mysogynistic, yes, but since our "hero," Brett, truly loves nothing and no one but himself, he treats no one else any better. His ego allows for a world inhabited by him and himself--other creatures are there only to serve and support. Locker room humor abounds and the level of cigar smoke had me metaphorically wheezing. (Did I mention how really good the narration is? Check out the sample and you'll see what I mean!) Despite this deliberate disaster for a lead character, there is an interesting murder mystery, cleverly solved. This is the third in a series but this story certainly stands alone.

Main character!
Brett was a bit of a... prick? Haha, I enjoyed the plot of the story, and it flowed very well. The narrator was excellent, really brought the characters alive, I couldn’t see anyone else playing Brett other than him! I read these out of order, currently going through the first one now! Can’t wait to see if I missed anything in the first book and what the future brings for Brett.

Well read silly book
This book is an amusing send-up of the private eye. The lead character Brett is possibly the vainest individual you will experience. But, the author does a nice job of letting the character foibles shine through even in 1st person POV.
It's easy to see that Travis Henry Carter has fun with this character.

Book 3
Brett Cornell, is a prime piece of All-American beef who has deemed instant gratification a way of life.. When a one night stand calls to say that her husband is trying to kill her, Brett knows the real reason, she’s back for Round 2. Brett takes her case and finds himself in the middle of a murder mystery. Nothing the great Brett Cornell can’t handle.

The Garden of Egypt.
Work is slow for Birchwood P.I. Brett Cornell. Could be because of the reputation of blue eyed, blonde moustachioed self styled Adonis' reputation as an unscrupulous bastard, a reputation he was proud to embrace. So when a call comes through to his office from a woman introducing herself as Paula Marshall, as if he should know the name, asking for help and saying that they were trying to kill her before the line went dead, he decides it really was not his problem. Until, that is, two wanna-be heavies stop him on the street and beat him up - a message, they tell him, from Mr.Walter Marshall. No one does that to Brett Cornell. Time to track down this Marshall person, presumably the husband of his telephone caller.
Brett is 36, rude, lewd and uncouth and totally full of himself, self congratulatory and constantly misquoting pieces of home philosophy.. He is the epitome of the perfect non-pc man. But still he seems to charm the ladies into his enthusiastic arms and bed. He even has a (sometimes) live-in girlfriend, Ginger, to whom he is totally faithful, well, apart from three or four (or is that 34? - he's a private eye, not a mathematician) times over the past month or so. He's not someone the reader would ever want to meet in life - but in a book? He's a hoot!
Brett Always Wins is the third book following his antics, each stand alone, an, for this reader, the best so far. Written in the first person, Brett is brilliantly portrayed by narrator Travis Henry Carter, who captures all the nuances of his jubilant, comic character with accent, intonation, pacing and expression. Additionally, every other protagonist is given their own appropriate and distinctive voicings, both male and female. An excellent performance throughout which enhances for the listener the fun and humour of this outrageous neanderthal of a man.
My warmest thanks to the rights holder from whom I received a freely gifted complimentary copy of this book, at my request, via F.A.F.Y. Certainly not a book I would recommend to anyone easily shocked. But for pig headed exuberance, self satisfied humour and racy, out of order comments, plus very colourful characters all wrapped up in a nice, simple little mystery, this book should not be missed. But if you do, to quote Brett himself, "It's not my problem.
