Excellent
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to learn more about the human brain. This book highlights the placebo effect, something that few of us understand well. That's just a reason to listen to it, but there are others too. I would say, give it a try. It's a good deal when you have a credit too.

I enjoyed it so much that I may tune in to it again sometime. I gained from this book. It was really an eye-opener. I was intending to discover more about this idea anyway, so it was no coincidence that I came across this book. I listened to it, and certainly not to my surprise, it was precisely what I was searching for.

Horrible opening chapter
I'm one chapter in and I think I'm ready to throw in the towell. I was attracted to the book description which was exactly what I was looking for, thinking it would focus on the placebo effect. As a medical professional I was instantly disappointed by the painful combination of unnecessarily specific scientific terminology with vague terms presumably thought up to make understanding easier for the lay person. Some of these words may be in common usage in the states, for me in the UK however, I find this type of terminology only adds to confusion. Stick to simplified description or accurate terminology please not both.
The narrator has a robotic tone and pronounces many of the medical words so incorrectly it's painful. Perhaps if you are not familiar with the words you may not notice, but to me it's making the audiobook very uncomfortable to listen to.
The whole opening chapter is a dry summary of multiple sclerosis and doesn't mention the placebo effect once, instead providing repetitive lists of symptoms which include meaningless umbrella terms mashed in with specific and unusual symptoms with no differentiators.
The next few chapters (which I skipped) are also about multiple sclerosis and you have to get to chapter 9 before you hear anything about the placebo effect. 10 seconds in, the reader has given a pretty sure description of what the placebo effect is and the narrator has misread the book so that the sentence makes no grammatical sense.
I can't believe that any of the 5 star reviews on here are honest, and I'm still not convinced whether this is a real narrotor or just a realistic computerised speech.
