good, though a bit awkward at times.

Overall i would say that this story is a solid 4. I liked petty much all the characters, and i LOVED the somewhat not so subtle jabs at the usual urban fantasy troupes, they made me laugh. I found myself surprised that i actually really liked the main character despite her having a personality that i would normally have found... tedious/off putting. It's also pretty entertaining to witness a role reversal from the standard urban fantasy formula.
The only nitpick i have, is that the dialogue can come off pretty unnatural and awkward at times, especially when it is used to convey info that the characters already knew or should have known, strictly for the purpose of informing the audience. It sounds really weird for a character to say something like "Hello, friend i have known for ten years." and other such minor info drops that really could have just been written into a inner monologue . However, despite that issue i found it to be one of the more enjoyable first books in a series and am looking forward to the rest whenever they come out on audible.

William Shatner?

I really enjoy the story, but the narration is making me crazy. The narrator has a very flat voice and pauses often and at odd times, very reminiscent of Willaim Shatner's emoting. It continually pulls me out of the story and is ruining the experience for me. I love the author so much that I endeavored and will keep the book, but I will not buy any additional titles in this series unless the narrator changes.

Maybe I was just spoiled with the Jacky Leon series. I really wish Savannah Gilmore had done both series.

I’m so happy this series came to audio!!!

I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. Loved meeting Kaliya, Cassius, & Raphael. Also getting another look into the Jacky Leon world. Great start to this series!!!

Very good

I had a little trouble getting into this book at first but I thoroughly enjoyed it once I did. I have to admit though that I am not a big fan of snakes. This book’s timeline seems to occur right after book one of the Jacky Leon series. There are narrators that are so good that I forget they are performing and reading from a book and then other narrators that seem to be performing the whole time. At first, it seemed as though Ms. Royce was performing but as the reading advanced she became part of the story.

Love this world

I am a picky reader that has no time for Carp. Unless I am exhausted and need sleep and even then In will listen to stories I love ...because I know them by heart and just need the noise much like Fan or white noise...those man
Me me anxious. I thought this authors first books I was going to read would be the white noise ...wrong wrong wrong love these characters and who they are. Good stories not a lot of ND over explanation s of every moment of time. And truly keep my interests...so great job ....critic now ...don't have to repeat some points in a story more than a couple times we get the conflicts IF we have been reading and following the strife in the heart of the main characters. OVER explanation of example...the mate situation and angst over that we get. That said can't wait for this series..read all the others and love the parallels.

2 and a half

I really wanted to like this book but I couldn't. I didn't really like the characters and the story didn't interest me. I love the Jackie Leon books but not this offshoot.
