Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
When Van Tudor returns to his childhood home, he inherits more than the family farm. His grandfather used to tell him fantastic stories of spacemen and monsters, princesses and galactic knights. Little did Van realize, the old man's tales were more than fiction; they were real. Hidden beneath the old barn, Van’s legacy is waiting: a starship, not of this world. With his combat AI, an android bird named Perry, Van takes his first steps into the wider galaxy. He soon finds that space is far busier and more dangerous than he could have ever conceived.

Story
In the 20th century Earth sent probes, transmissions, and welcoming messages to the stars. Unfortunately, someone noticed. The Galactics arrived with their battle fleet in 2052. Rather than being exterminated under a barrage of hell-burners, Earth joined their vast Empire. Swearing allegiance to our distant alien overlords wasn't the only requirement for survival. We also had to have something of value to trade, something that neighboring planets would pay their hard-earned credits to buy. As most of the local worlds were too civilized to have a proper army, the only valuable service Earth could provide came in the form of soldiers....

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

Another Excellent book in the series
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Well if your sucked into the series you have no choice but to recommend them.
What other book might you compare Born of the Ashes to and why?
No each book I read is different
Which character – as performed by Jeffrey Kafer – was your favorite?
None really, but the Author better keep JK he is an excellent voice actor. An audio book can succeed or fail on the voice actor. You change voice actor in this series of books would kill them. Pay whatever price he asks for. And no he is not my brother or cousin.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Aurora against all odds.
Any additional comments?
I wish he would write a longer book, Ben Bova seems give more bank for the buck. Plus I would think since this is a series the time between books would be shorter your just continuing with the story line. I would suggest you ask the readers to submit story line ideas. Might help in moving the story along faster. No they don't get paid and No they don't get credit. They get to see their idea on the written page and that should be enough

Brown is getting better with each book
In the last book, the Arora had the Jung battleship defeated and the Ghatazhak troops had found and rescued his father. Nathan had killed his brother in a stand-off. The Jung were attempting to destroy all the major cities on Earth.
The Jung battle fleet is almost to Earth. The Aurora and Celestia are racing to repair severe battle damage and get the Celesta’s jump drive operational. The messenger with the Data Storage containers has reached Tug (Prince Casimin) and he has set about to obtain ships and crew to set a fleet to help the Arora.
The Ghatazhak troops are fighting insurgent skirmishes on Earth while the spaceships are trying to fix the ships, manufacture parts and find basic raw or salvaged materials for the replicators. The suspense builds as the Jung Fleet keeps getting closer and a massive battle platform is missing. Is it on the way to Earth? Then the battle begins: the Aurora and Celestia against two Jung battleships and their protecting ships and a battle platform coming.
Brown keeps improving with each book. The characters continuing to mature and develop with each book. The story continues to becoming more complicated as there are more people and side stories evolving. We are left with a cliff hanger as the Jung fleet arrives and the battle begins. I am so glad I discovered this series; it is turning out to be one of the better military sci-fi series.
Jeffrey Kafer does an excellent job narrating the story. Kafer has narrated all the books in the series so far. I think it is critical to have the same narrator for an entire series.

Brown is maturing in his writing..best yet
This is Brown's best yet. His characterizations are becoming well-developed with real emotions and real problems. Nathan Scott has matured into someone far wiser than his years, which one would expect considering his past 8 months. The plot continues to interest and occasionally surprise. Can't wait for the next installment.

Great SF
Heroic characters that have flaws but are still people you would like to meet, real people that are relatable. Not unbelievably evil or good. Characters that could be right out of our history and may be in our future. A story you think about when you're not listening. Straight forward SF that entertains without weighing in on current fads or social issues. Doesn't preach about current issues from some future moral position. A very enjoyable listen!

Story
The Eden Project was a dream. To start the first extra-solar colony... To avoid the mistakes of our past... To start anew. Three generations, born and raised on a starship hurtling through space. To never know an open sky... To never feel the wind on their face... To never witness the sun rise or set. It is up to the advance team to set foot on each of these worlds, conduct their surveys, and send their findings back to the colony ship. So many questions... So little time... Such an enormous responsibility.

The world has changed. Now, when someone is murdered, they almost always come back to life—and there are professionals, called “dispatchers”, who kill in order to save lives, to give those near the end a second chance. Tony Valdez is a dispatcher, and he has never been busier. But for as much as the world has changed, some things have stayed the same. Greed, corruption, and avarice are still in full swing.

Story
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.
