About the Author and Performer

Trevor Noah found fame as a comedian and TV personality in his native South Africa before becoming a household name in America as the host of The Daily Show. But before he found his gift for satire, he came of age as a storyteller during the waning days of apartheid and the tumultuous freedom that followed. In writing and performing Born a Crime—his first book—Trevor Noah can add “best-selling memoirist” and “audiobook narrator” to his list of hilarious-yet-heartfelt triumphs.

Editorial Review

This book has been on the best seller list since it released, and it deserves to be on the best seller list FOREVER. At this rate, it will be. Everything about this is perfect. Trevor's story is incredible, and his delivery is just as remarkable. Lucky for us, he has another memoir releasing this fall.Laura M., Audible Editor

Didn't live up to it's hype, for me.

Was slightly disappointed with this audiobook after all the hype. Felt the writer was a bit emotionally detached from the events, even though it was his own life.

Interesting in the same way a fiction book can be

I like to read non-fiction because I feel like I can learn something from it. But this particular book wasn't very informational. It was more a story about poverty, racial injustices, and abuse. The story was unique but didn't really make me feel any emotion. I'm not disappointed with my decision to read it but I wouldn't pick it twice.

I expected more...

That is the issue with hyped books, you tend to expect more than it can actually give you.

I did enjoy the book, the stories and learning from it, but the book turned a bit repetitive/boring at the end.

Repetitive and drawn out. All over the place.<br />

Noah is great but the story could have been about 3 total chapters. One minutes hes a baby, then and adult ,and then a toddler,

Too much profanity!

I liked this book at the start, and some of it made me laugh out loud. In general it was written very interestingly, but the further I progressed the worse the language got. I would have liked to finish the book but I couldn't get past the bad language and the irreverence in parts of it.

Full of profanity

I finally quit listening. There is no reason for profanity. This story is ok, gives some insight into the culture, but it is hard to listen to.

All about how great he is.

I so wanted to quit this book but I kept hoping for.....something to make it worthwhile. Never happened. Don’t waste your time.

Noah is proud of his bad behavior

This book will appeal to teenage boys. It is the boasting of a selfish man. Lost respect for the man who takes pride in his misdeeds.

the book is okay

it took me a while to go through this book. a lot of it is the early childhood of the author, around 6 to 8 years old stories, hanging out with his mother and talking about the dog.
the end is more interesting, it deals with his teenagerhood and how he was getting.

Maybe I just struggle to enjoy a nonfiction

I Struggled with the overall lack of plot. While some of Trevor’s stories were interesting and funny I just did not see the point. I did not know much of Trevor Noah when I started the book - I kept exiting for big reveal or something significant. I had heard many positive reviews of this book . The audio was good but I was still disappointed overall .

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!

I'm so glad that Trevor Noah reads this book himself. He does voices for his family members and is SO funny!! A very entertaining look at what has been a pretty heavy and eventful life.
