Lucy has finally found her bliss as a librarian and resident of the Bodie Island Lighthouse. She loves walking on the beach; passing her evenings with the local book club; bonding with the library cat, Charles; and enjoying the attention of not one but two eligible men.

But then her socialite mother, Suzanne, unexpectedly drops in, determined to move Lucy back to Boston and reunite her with her ex-fiancé. To make matters worse, Suzanne picks a very public fight at the local hotel with her former classmate, Karen Kivas. So, when Karen turns up dead outside the library the next morning, Suzanne is immediately at the top of the suspect list. Now Lucy must hunt down a dangerous killer before the authorities throw the book at her poor mother.

This second entry in the Lighthouse Library series is even better than the first. I look forward to new entries, which I hope will be numerous.

Elise gives a great performance. Eva Gates writes so vividly. She makes me feel like I’m on vacation, right there in the book.

Great who done-it

A well-done cozy. The location is interesting. The plot is clear and well-developed. The writing is pretty good. The narrator continues to mush the ending of words, and if it's an attempt at the softer Southern dialect, it's not working. Also, the narrator mispronounces some, e.g., enveloped is not about an envelope one uses for mail, so it is pronounced en-VEL, etc - yes, it is picky, but it is distracting and pulls one from the story. Has romance but no descriptions of sex. It has murder but no blow-by-blow descriptions of violence or blood and guts because it is about the mystery, not the crime. I really like the cat. Well-rounded characters. There is nothing cardboard about the plot or characters. It fulfills all the requirements of a properly good cozy for adults who like to read a mystery without delving into complex, sordid details and appreciate good writing.

Reminds me of Murder She Wrote. Like!
