Story
Vampire and thief Raylene Pendle doesn’t need more complications in her life. Her Seattle home is already overrun by a band of misfits, including Ian Stott, a blind vampire, and Adrian deJesus, an ex–Navy SEAL/drag queen. But Raylene still can’t resist an old pal’s request: seek out and steal a bizarre set of artifacts. Also on the hunt is a brilliant but certifiably crazy sorceress determined to stomp anyone who gets in her way.

Publisher's Summary
Raylene Pendle (AKA Cheshire Red), a vampire and world-renowned thief, doesn’t usually hang with her own kind. She’s too busy stealing priceless art and rare jewels. But when the infuriatingly charming Ian Stott asks for help, Raylene finds him impossible to resist - even though Ian doesn’t want precious artifacts. He wants her to retrieve missing government files: documents that deal with the secret biological experiments that left Ian blind. What Raylene doesn’t bargain for is a case that takes her from the frozen outskirts of Minneapolis to the mean streets of Atlanta. And with a psychotic, power-hungry scientist on her trail, a kick-ass drag queen on her side, and Men in Black popping up at the most inconvenient moments, the case proves to be one hell of a ride.

Cherie Priest shows some humor and class
I've read some of Ms.Priest's other books, and they had a heavier theme. "BloodShot" had humor, and showed a different kind of vampire than we are used to in many of our current venues. I enjoyed this story, however it did leave you open to the next book in the series "Hellbent". I just finished book two, and I think that it might have worked better as one book. I thought "Hellbent" gave more closure and still made characters enjoyable. If you get "BloodShot" you'll want to get "Hellbent". You won't be disappointed, this may be the start of an excellent series. (ie Sookie Stackhouse)

A notch above
We all know it, most urban fantasy authors are considered sub-par writers and I must admit not always without reason. Cherie Priest though is an author I have come to like and respect after having read Dreadnought and Boneshaker (superb Steampunk) so I didn???t hesitate for a second in getting this. I was not disappointed.
She seems to give credence to the reputation of urban fantasy authors in this because it is certainly a notch above most UF. I cannot help feeling though that this novel is more of the start of a series than a standalone novel, maybe because of the abrupt ending. On the other hand I really wouldn???t mind another book featuring Cheshire Red. The narration is excellent.

I wanted it to be better than it was
The narrator was great. The story would drag and drag. I'd zone out for large periods and come back and she was still thinking girly thoughts about something. She'd go on about how important it is to not care for humans, and then you find out she cares for two kids. She would go on about how different she looks, but no one EVER noticed... until sometimes they did. Shoot, it's stated at least twice how black her eyes are and how her pupils take up her whole iris... now go look at the cover. Feels like the character needed cleaned up. She would tell you how she got here and how successful she is and smart, then F everything up. She talked like a hard ass, but made all the HORRIBLE rookie mistakes. AND, she was the MOST emotional and nonvampiric vampire I've ever read. If the story had been with a normal non preternatural, it may have been good. But it's like it was written for any lead female, and then the fact that she was a vampire was added as an after thought. So yeah. I didn't enjoy it. I have been trying to listen to it for two weeks now and I can't get through it, that almost NEVER happens. I average two audio books a week. (lots of driving.)

Just fun!
I have read mostly Anne Rice vampire books and this is not it! This audiobook was purchased by complete and joyous by chance. I was looking for a new audiobook and I didn't even read one review about it. This audiobook turned out to be unique (to me) in the approached and humor Cherie Priest uses with her characters and plot.
This is my first Cherie Priest book and I have to say that I am hooked. She created a modern vampire that one, has a job. It might not be a legal one but she is dealing with clients and and deadlines. And two, Raylene is a vampire that does not need to suck the life out of every one she meets. Don't get me wrong there is violence and a few people die. But she does it cause she has to not because she is thirsty.
I think this (audio)book would be a great television series. Having a season of Raylene going on one big action packed mission for a client would be great. Her character is so kick butt that she could hold the show. I mean who doesn't like a kick ass strong female protagonist with a side kick Drag Queen.
If I could fix one thing with this book I would give them book more steam. Without giving anything away, there was a moment that frustrated me that nothing happened.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Just okay
I wasn't impressed with this, my first book by Cherie Priest. It was fine and I finished it, but won't read another. I had trouble buying in to a vampire who was supposed to be the best thief ever, but suffered from the cold, had panic attacks, was clumsy at times and made some pretty dumb decisions. I did not find the humor that others wrote about. The narrator did well and had a pleasant voice, which helped. A bit too much ruminating on the part of the heroine, and some odd lines like this metaphor, "slick as whale s**t through an ice flow." Huh?

Meh.
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The main character is sexy but there is little to no sexual tension. The 'sidekick' character is a drag queen who is also a former special opps marine?? Really? The main character is alternately paranoid and bored. There is a plot but I didnt care much by the end.
If you’ve listened to books by Cherie Priest before, how does this one compare?
I have not.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
It was performed fine, not extraordinary.
Could you see Bloodshot being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
No.

Great book...
Would you consider the audio edition of Bloodshot to be better than the print version?
For me...yes. I am very busy and I love having the option of listening while doing other tasks.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Bloodshot?
I liked the part when Cheshire went to her building after the intruder came in. It kind of puts you on edge because you don't know who they are or what they are looking for.
What does Natalie Ross bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She puts feeling into the characters so that they seem like real people. You are able to connect to the characters better.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Hmmmm... this is hard. There are so many dynamics. There is action, dysfuncton, romance (very little and not erotic but it works), suspence etc. that it would be hard to put all of that in a tag line.
Any additional comments?
I need the next book ;0)

Intriguing
Is there anything you would change about this book?
I would change the authors tendency to overexplain things.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
Good ending, I assume it will tie it in with the next one.
What three words best describe Natalie Ross’s voice?
A good performance of the characters in a book can bring it alive. I think Ms Ross gave it a good shot, made the book good. A little flat in places, and her cuban/mexican accent needs some help.

No but I have added her to my to listen to list
