Funny & sarcastic crime noir/P.I. mystery

Mitch King, Private Investigator, is one very flawed, very human man. As he works a couple cases around Houston, we readers are given an all-access pass to his uncensored witty sarcasm, dark'n'dirty thoughts, and not-so-angelic proclivities. Now this is my kind of guy! (On paper, anyway.) Never short on action, this is a fantastic read for fans of crime noir/police procedurals/P. I. mysteries. I'm already itching to start the next installment. Narration was terrific, although I did decrease narration speed to 0.95%.

Double Cases with Expectations for Double Entertainment

Was this a devut novel from Sam Waas? It had qualities of a novice author (notice 'author', not 'writer').

It's well written (and decently delivered via audiobook) not yet stellar. This author should be watched; he's headed for great things, particularly with this detective series.

The main character and his immediate circle are fleshed out with vivid personalities.

The characters of his cases- not so much. They didn't pop into life, but were trying to.
Dialogues flow well, for the most part.
The interrogation scenes fell apart at the seams into a fragmented mess of a jigsaw puzzle box. It didn't feel credible; not even in a "it's entertainment i.e. tv or big screen scenes" sense.

This book has mature, brief sex scenes, similar to current cultural trends in the detective worlds.

This was also my first audio from Mr Loving. I think he will also grow stronger if he chooses to embark on this journey to narrate. He needs to pace a bit, as he sounds like he attempts to read the longer sentences in one breath. I've picked up another audio by him and I'm looking foward to his professional development.

A solid 4 stars with expectations for higher standards in any upcoming works.

What did you love best about Blood Spiral?

It has all the ingrediients of a good detecive stories. I will be looking out for the next book in the series .

So I'm Not The Only One

The beginning of the story has the main character, Mitch King, cruising down the road helping the singer on the radio belt out a few lines to a song. "I didn't get all the words right, but no harm. No abject lesson to learn, nothing to teach..." I have to admit the author had me from the beginning, how many times had I sang along to a song, only to be corrected about what was said.
The narrator has an odd speech, one that grows on you. I think the author and narrator are a great match. This was a free review copy, thanks for letting me listen.
Thanks to Audio Addict's, a group on Facebook, I have listened to a boatload of review copies in the last two months. Thanks to a great job by the narrator and author this may be the first series worth paying for. :)

Very entertaining listen. Max us an odd and different detective. He works his way through his cases with odd background characters that add to the fun of the story. A different kind of character study. The narration adds depth to the story . I love mystery's and this one is no exception. I figured the whodunnit but the big reveal had a "whoa Nelly" quality to it. I kinda saw it coming but it was still a bit messed up.

I liked the story (a lot) but I wanted a bit more from the narrator. Don't get me wrong, he was good and I did enjoy the listen. It was just that sometimes it felt like he was running out of breath at the end of a sentence. It didn't happen a lot but it was noticeable on the few times that I did hear it.

As for the writing itself, as much as I enjoyed it, I wish Mitch had been a better person. The binge at the end?...I had a 'c'mon Man' moment. I'm hooked though and will look for book two!

Contemporary crime noir

Oh, I LIKED this story. I received the audio book in exchange for an honest review. Descriptive, funny, in depth. Very believable characters, although I would have liked to have shaken Mitch King for his failures.

Mitch is a detective asked to solve two cases, one a murder and one a stalking. Neither turn out the way he expects them too. He's a very likeable character, and there are well developed sidekicks/secondary characters that help him along. They have his back and administer strong words (and blows) if and when necessary. Looking forward to listening to more of this series

This was a brilliant book! Mitch King ans his friends / surrounding characters were well characterised ans narrated brilliantly. The writing and narration really brought their characters to the forefront. What makes Mitch King even better was that he has flaws. Though at times I wanted to shake him, Sam Waas has created a brilliant main character.

Plot wise, this book covers two cases - a murder and a stalking. Personally, I preferred the murder case, not just for personal preference as I find stalking cases in detective novels kinda boring, but because the murder case was extremely well written. the stalking case was also well written, but just didn't grab me as much.

All in all, a spectacular book!

Gripping

Mitch King is a private investigator who works in Houston, Texas and who has friends within and sometimes works with the Houston police Department. This book is about two of his cases, which he is working simultaneously, in Houston. In his first case he is hired by a lawyer who is representing a female client, Terrie, who is charged with the murder of her longtime boyfriend in a botched break-in. Mitch interviews Terrie, a beauty, in jail, and instantly falls in love with her and is convinced of her innocence, partly because he has fallen in love with her,and partly because she attempted to shoot the man who shot her boyfriend. He also believes that she is in danger for attempting to shoot the shooter. His second case is about a female astronaut who is having problems with unwanted advances from a lesbian co-worker. The plot leads through many sub plots with both of the clients and both the end outcomes are a little surprising. The story line and characters are well developed and I enjoyed this boom and would read another in this series without reservation. I also thought the narrator did an excellent job.
