Publisher's Summary

Two crims. One schoolgirl. Someone's in trouble.

Two dumb, wannabe criminals bite off more than they can chew when they abduct a schoolgirl from a particularly modern, angular suburban house.

In the mould of Elmore Leonard or early Tarantino Blockhouse Blues and the Elmore Beast is a distinctly Australian story about kidnapping, obsession, and architecture.

So, if you enjoy your crime gritty, your humor dark and, dry and don't object to a little colorful language, you’ll love Jack Stroke’s debut novel Blockhouse Blues and the Elmore Beast.

A little bit different

Block House Blues. . To be honest it's never going to be called a classic. but it has its own style and is an entertaining read /listen. I read the ebook earlier in the year and enjoyed it. I listened to the audiobook last week., Caleb Dusts narration certainly brings the book to life.
Recommend this book to anyone who likes something a bit different.

First rule of management, everything is your fault

Melbourne, Australia, and two none-too-bright wanna-be criminals decide to work their way up the ladder by kidnapping the big boss's teenage daughter. It doesn't go exactly to plan.
This Australian noir story comes with a bad language health warning and is said to be a true story 'except for the made up bits'. Delicious! It is very easy to see this incompetent duo, and the other protagonists, as they muddle through the day and it's hard not to feel an iota of sympathy for the despite their intentions.

More linear than the excellent Scam (of which an excerpt follows the main story), Blockhouse Blues offers a funny and visual characterisation of these Melbourne low lifes. The narrator, Caleb Dust, further enhances the picture with his individual character dialogue and well intoned text reading. Great fun, and my thanks to the author for freely gifting me with a complimentary copy when I contacted him after reading Scam. More, please.
