Publisher's Summary

A wise and inspiring guide to creating a happy and healthy blended family by Mashonda Tifrere with contributions from her co-parents - Swizz Beatz and his wife, Grammy-Award winning singer and songwriter Alicia Keys.

In January 2010, founder of ArtLeadHer Mashonda Tifrere and music producer Swizz Beatz finalized their divorce. When Swizz married award-winning singer/songwriter Alicia Keys, a new dynamic was born - three adults who loved and were deeply committed to raising Mashonda and Swizz's four-year old son Kasseem. In Blend, Tifrere draws on the insights they gained from their journey as well as advice from family therapists, parenting experts, and other blending families, to provide an invaluable resource for blended families.

Statistics show that one in three Americans is now a step-parent, stepchild, step-sibling or other member of a blended family. The number of first time marriages or romantic relationships that end in divorce or breakups and the high percentage of remarriages and new relationships that involve children demand a unique, life-affirming approach to processing the end of one relationship and the rebirth of a new familial dynamic with the well-being of children at its center. In this book, Tifrere shares intimate details on how she and her co-parents used communication, patience and love to create an environment where they were able to work as a team and all the children involved could thrive.

Blend will inspire a generation of families.

This book is a truly a Gift.

I just finished listening to the Blend audio book (completed it in two days), and felt deeply compelled to immediately write a review. I am 7 months pregnant with my first child, confronted with the pending reality of coparenting with my ex. While I wasn't married to my partner, the circumstances of our relationship's end were quite painful, and have felt endlessly triggering. Everyday I find myself working through wounds surrounding abandonment, unworthiness, and not-enoughness.

Learning from Mashonda's experience how these truamas could adversely affect my daughter, made it clear that I must tend to them with delicate patience + persistence. Though challenging work, the peace, love, and authenticity Mashonda exudes let's me know it is well worth it.

After one listen, I know Blend will be my blueprint for cultivating a harmonious family dynamic, predicated on a commitment to self-work + self-care. I'll be investing in a hardcopy so I can highlight, underline, and annotate its many gems.

If you're reading, Mashonda: Thank you for your bravery, candor, and for answering the call to write this book. Blend is truly a gift to the world, and it will heal fractured families today, for the continued benefit of generations to come.

This book got me into all kind of emotions and I couldn’t stop listening once I started.
Tears fell out my eye as I related to my own life as a child and as a mother of two beautiful girls that are blended family potential.
Thank you Mashonda for being vulnerable and sharing your truth with us.
With this life manual, I pray that I create a loving family for children and everyone involved.
This should be read by everyone because it covers multitude of lessons.
God bless you and your family.

Speechless

I have to say I didn't even know this book was out. I remember watching Love and Hip Hop seeing just a small portion of Mashonda's life play out. But WOW.....I mean what can I say this book needs to get all the credit it deserves. As a single mom today who struggles to get along with my child's father this has helped me begin to start my own self repair, and try to learn how to communicate with my co partner to bridge the huge gap of tension between us. This book exemplifies class, maturity, love, and so much wisdom we can learn from. Thank you so much for sharing. Please continue to share this. Great source of resources in the book as well. ❤

So very inspiring!

After happening upon an interview of Swizz and Alicia regarding their family dynamics and hearing about Mashonda’s book, I listened and purchased the book myself. It is an awesome message of real life, inspiration, and hope. Unfortunately, divorce is a prevalent reality but whether you’re personally going through it, or know a family going through divorce this is definitely worth the read! I feel like I can better sympathize and support people I know in love. I also took some pretty awesome notes on parenting to use in my own home.

Inspiration with love and light

Opened my eyes to a new way of being; parking egos and concentrating on what really matters: how we treat people.

Having been raised with "step siblings" and now being a bonus mum to a teenager myself, I found these chapters so relatable.

Finishing this book made me take a reality check to my own created environment. Am I doing all I can? What would it be like to allow myself to relax and socialise with someone I'd never thought to before - I didn't realise that was allowed outside of weddings, christenings and funerals!

Now we have a social event in the calendar, our first and no doubt the start of a stronger blended family relationship. Thank you for sharing your love and light.
