Story
The sixth book in the Rose Gardner Investigations series. For months, Rose has suspected her ex-brother-in-law, has a foot in the criminal world, and she’s equally sure her deceased sister had the evidence to prove it - evidence stolen days just days after Violet’s death. Those suspicions turn concrete when a body shows up near one of Mike's construction sites, and the concrete cracks open wide when her niece and nephew go missing. Rose might be weeks away from delivering her own baby, but that doesn’t stop her and her best friend, Neely Kate, from looking for the kids.

Special prosecutor Mason Deveraux has called a grand jury to investigate the corruption in the Sweet Branch police department, and he’s summoned Rose as a witness. Any topic is fair game, and the criminals in Fenton county are rightly scared of what she might share under oath. For as long as Magnolia Steele can remember, the past has had its hooks in her. Her time as a Broadway actress in New York City was an escape that ended in public humiliation, but now that she's back home in Franklin, Tennessee, she's feeling the grip of the two incidents that stole her innocence. The first was the disappearance of her father when she was a teen, who left home for a meeting and never came back. The other incident...well, her memories have returned, but it's best left where it belongs - in the past.

Worst of all, her sister is terminally ill, and there isn’t a thing she can do to save her. Publisher's Summary
Summer Butler is killing it in the ratings - and all of America is tuning in as New York Times best-selling author Denise Grover Swank greenlights a new season of TV’s hottest sleuth…
Summer Butler had no idea that Darling Investigations would be such a smash. But ratings don’t lie - fans love watching the former star solve real-life crimes in her hometown. With the first season wrapped, the reality-show PI is feeling the pressure to make the next one an even bigger success.
Though finding a new case won’t be easy - it’s not like another dead body will just fall in her lap - Summer’s willing to give it a try. Besides, reconciling with her family - not to mention her old flame, police chief Luke Montgomery - is a nice way to spend her downtime.
But Summer’s rekindled romance isn’t the only thing burning up Sweet Briar. It seems the town is harboring an arsonist, and all the smoldering signs point to the same culprit: her cousin Dixie. Although this case may be too close for comfort, it seems season two is already bringing the drama - and for Summer it could also be too hot to handle.

DGS does it again!
Another fun read to escape daily life. I am a huge DGS fan. I don’t usually listen to audio books but I had to take on this series as a fan and also because I didn’t want spoilers while reading the Magnolia Steele series releases from the DGS newsletter.
I was skeptical about listening rather than reading but I have found it a great relief at the end of a day of staring at the computer.
If you like DGS books, or if you haven’t read them but enjoy strong female characters with sass, and romantic bits woven throughout a southern-set mystery, then you will love these books. My only problem is that I want more...as usual with DGS books!

Good story it overly dramatic characters
While the basic plot of the story has merit, the overly dramatic swings in behavior and emotions was disappointing. At times the heroine of the story seemed more like a 10- or 12-year old than a 20-something detective.

This one was just as good as the first one and Summer is back season two is starting and this one not going as planned. There is an arsonist on the loose and they are trying to pin it all on Dixie. Of course, Summer and her team solve the mystery and the associated murders. So good! I wish there were more of this series.
