Publisher's summary

An alien ship. Stolen colonists. All Throttle wanted was a vacation....

Fifteen years into a 20-year voyage, war veteran Captain Throttle Reyne is looking forward to taking a break from dealing with malfunctions, glitches, and the hassles of monitoring 1,000 colonists in cryo-sleep.

But when her colony ship breaks down in the middle of nowhere, Throttle and her crew must leave the colonists behind to search for help. They find a ship that's not only missing a crew...it's clearly not from their star system.

It's the discovery of a lifetime. All they need to do is tow the mysterious vessel back to their colony ship for further study and Throttle won't ever have to work again. One problem. While they're away, the colony ship is stolen - with the colonists still on board.

Throttle gives chase to a lawless star system on the outer rim. To get their colonists back, they must take on the pirates and ganglords who will do anything - and sell anyone - to make a buck.

They play dirty. But Throttle and her crew play dirtier.

Strap on your restraints and experience the start of this new space-opera thrill ride. It's perfect for fans of Jay Allan, Jennifer Foehner Wells, and Star Wars.

Somethings missing, but I just might be the wrong audience

I didn’t care for the characters.
The whimsical dispatchment of life didn’t sit right.
I like Rachel‘s work, just not this one right now.

I loved this book. (Big Spoilers ahead)

This was an asking book, and an awesome continuation of The Fringe Wars. I am sad that it looks like we won’t likely be seeing any characters from The Fringe Wars that are still in the colonies, but the story is still great. From the description I was worried it would be aliens but the story is easily believable and makes perfect sense. That ending though, was a surprise and a half (BIG SPOILER), I nearly cried when the explosion happened. After everything they’d been through, when I finally thought they were safe, gut punched spit of the blue. It was insane and now all I want is to see their killers punished.

Not BAD

unexpected turns and twist. Sometimes somethings felt like they didn't payoff afew situations and handle it. the not wanting too hurt certain people in your way was just a false reaction to the beginning set up.

Solid story and narration

I like the MC. She is tough, but not *too* wishy washy. The story is interesting and the characters are compelling. I will read book 2 as soon as I catch up a bit.

update: Books 1-3 are available as an omnibus edition, so don't buy this book even if it's on sale since you'll have to find the other individual books 2 & 3 on sale or buy the omnibus which already includes this book. Sigh, I hate when they do this.

Good listen good story

I’m more into overcoming impairments rather than working through them. Plus it takes a strong female lead since I prefer to become engrossed in male characters.
But the story was interesting and captivating

Good story

good storyline, builds characters well up front, with suspenseful components up to about halfway, then kind of bogs down with overly-long character interaction, then eventually warms back up for the climax. the ending sets up nicely for follow-on books. Narration is very good. I think more action would have been nice, but that's just me - it might not be the author's style. a good book to keep you entertained.
