Publisher's summary

After an erotic one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again. Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that her former lover is not only her professor, but he's also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.

With everyone in class vying to be one of the 12 disciples - a group of 12 students that Professor Black takes under his wing - tensions run high. Thea considers dropping his class, given their passionate week together and their undeniable chemistry. After all, there are other (less infuriatingly sexy) law professors on campus.

But to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best - and that's Levi Black.

But can she learn under the best, without being under the best?

The Verdicts In .... Five Solid Stars!

I loved, LOVED, this story and performance! It was AWESOME! And I am soooo ashamed to admit I freakin` couldn't turn it off! I was literally up till after 3:30am when the story finally ended. Thank goodness, I didn't have to work today!

Kudos to Aubrey Vincent and Marcio Catalano for such an spectacular performance! This is the first audiobook I've listened to narrated with Aubrey and she was great. I've listened to some of Marcio's other books, and dang he just keeps getting better with each story! This duo owned it, and brought the story and characters to life, and totally captivated me!

Black Rainbow drew me in with such a well developed plot, excellent characters, tons of sexual tension, and weaved in enough drama and suspense, I was hooked from chapter one.

Well worth my time (even if I'm sleep deprived), definitely worth a credit, or sale, but I have a fellow Audible member that I follow to thank for connecting me to such a great story! I knew you had great taste!

Great story, characters & narrators!!

What a great surprise!! This story was very good. It was a forbidden romance between teacher & student. However, had interesting twists and turns, great secondary characters, who were well developed. The main characters were awesome. The flow of the relationship was good. I'm not alway a fan of dual narrative. The sexual tension gets a little watered down when you hear the inner monologue of both characters, and when you hear 1st hand the mutual attraction it can feel like insta-love. When the pov is only from one side sometimes it ratchets up the sexual tension!!! In the case of Black Rainbow the dual POV was great. I also liked that the Hero was NOT a manwhore and the heroine was NOT this quirky wallflower, who once she is noticed by the Hero is all of the sudden the most attractive women to enter a room/bar/ restaurant. The heroine Thea Cunning is FEIRCE long before meeting Mr Black. I felt like I knew them well by the end of their story. This is the 1st book I have listened too by JJ McAvoy, so glad I did. Stand alone - no cliff hanger!!

Great story, however...

I wished that I had read it instead of listened to it. My grievances with this book have everything to do with the production than and performance and not the story.
The performance of the male narrator killed it. He was off with his exclamations, intonations and emoting of the story. He emoted one way but the story went another, it was bad acting and reading on his part.
The other bad thing was the intermittent sounds they decided to throw in to the production, an alarm clock going off, a phone buzzing, it was distracting and unnecessary- not to mention louder than the vocals and therefore deafening!
It added nothing to the story and made the already jumpy editing worse.

The story was very good, I was hooked from the beginning and the love story and subsequent mini mystery involving Thea's father made it more than just a love story.
The book was funny sexy and had a great pace but as I said at the beginning, I wished I had read it rather than listened to it, I would have saved myself a lot of money!!

The Lighter Side of McAvoy

This is a light, contemporary romance from a typically dark romance writer. With humor and flirty banter, a professor and a student fall for one another without knowing. Then it grows deeper and is irresistible so the main characters embrace the new relationship while they search for a truth and heal each other. Uniquely written with a tight storyline and good secondary characters. So, so good.

Wow

I loved the plot: I expected the usual angsty, forbidden love story between a student and her professor but this was so much more, way more complex, and absolutely not cliched. The student-teacher angle was actually only the beginning of the whole plot.

I loved the characters: they were incredibly attractive in their complexities and I was sorry to let them go at the end!

But... I especially loved the narration, it was absolutely perfectly executed. Both the female and male narrators were great and the entire thing was so well done (including sound effects!), it simply drew you in. I usually alternate between the written version of books and the audible version, only using the audible version when I can't physically read, but in this case I simply couldn't stop LISTENING. I didn't read a single word!

It was great.

ENJOY MEDIOCRE BOOKS?---HERE'S ONE FOR YOU!

This book is what I'd consider background noise. It didn't absorb my attention completely but it's good enough that I was curious to see how things turned out. The biggest detractor was the narration, more specifically, the male narrator--nice voice but poor execution and dramatization of the scenes, which completely took away from the mediocre journey that was this book. With a different narrator, I might consider purchasing another JJ McAvoy book, but, I'm in no rush.

Excellent!

This was a great BWWM suspense and love crazed story. Thia and Professor Black had a love that burned up the pages. I would reccomend this law drama to anyone. Well worth the credit and time.

Refreshing and interesting story

Inter racial romance - about time. This was a refreshing change from the sameness coming from this genre of reading, I really liked that race wasn't overplayed but broached none the less.
Great storyline, so many aspects to the story, loved the lawyer role and the intelligent strong woman lead.
This book has broken the mould on several levels.
I found the male voice a little hard to listen to sometimes, slight over acting. but otherwise very good

Pleasantly surprised

Good story, a little bit funny, a little thrilling but throughly engaging. Sexy read, good chemistry between the leads, would have liked Thea to come round quicker though.

Good audio performances. Really liked that it was read by a male and female voice and the additional sound effects were a treat.

An original plot and a well delivered audible.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved the characters, dialogues and the narration.
This is the first audible I heard that adds the extra noises to the story and it made it more vivid and real.
Both voice actors managed the voice transitions well each having to add several characters to their dialogues.
The plot had me enthralled and I wanted to keep listening to reach the conclusion.
Not your typical romance story. Although it has a taboo romance undertone I wish the author played more with that fact and make it more angsty. Loved the fact that the lead character didn't have an emotional baggage and he was just going for what he wants.

Brilliantly written!!

A truly well written novel and audiobook. The storyline was realistic and engaging. I listened to the entire book in one sitting, not wanting to miss a moment. The twists were brilliantly played. Well done!! I even shed a tear at the end.

I would recommend this audiobook, definitely. Now I’m going to explore other books by the author.👍🏾

Gorgeously sweet romance

This is one of those sweet books, where both characters just belong together. The female/male viewpoints worked really well. If you enjoy romances, with a few twists along the way then certainly give this a read. It's definitely a feel good kinda book.

Explosive listening

What did you like most about Black Rainbow?

I loved the plot, it was emotionally driven. It played with your emotions and made you want to know what happened next, next in the court room and next in Thea and Levi's relationship.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Thea, she had such drive and strength to get her father out of prison, raising her younger sister. Knowing when to send her sister away because she wasn't happy being in their mothers house. After everything she had been through she just had so much fight. I loved her and Levi together, both before and after she became his student.

What does Marcio Catalano and Aubrey Vincent bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

I read the book first before listening to Marcio and Aubrey narrate it, they emphasis the passion that your inner voice can do while reading it but it is more dramatic and makes it more emotional. I don't know how many times I cried listening to this book.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Strength, love and the truth to face it all.

Perserve with the first few chapters

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Not really

What other book might you compare Black Rainbow to, and why?

Near the end it was like a James Patterson but almost lost me in the beginning.

What does Aubrey Vincent and Marcio Catalano bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Easy listening

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Nope
