Bipolar disorder is a condition that affects peoples' relationships with others as much as it affects their own mental state. When one person in a couple is experiencing the extreme highs and lows of a disorder like this one, it's impossible for their partner not to feel the strain, too. Dr. Bloch, Dr. Golden, and Nancy Rosenfeld explain what's normal, what's not, what might change, and what definitely won't. By understanding the reality of bipolar and what it means for a relationship, couples will relate to each other better today and plan for a successful future together tomorrow.

I would like to tell you a little about my story and see if you can relate. At 37 years old I can look back now and say that my battle with generalized and social anxiety probably started around 10 years old. Pretty young right? I would panic for weeks before having to speak in front of the class, I would sit at the back of the class and would dread group assignments where I would have to interact with people and even family gatherings would get me nervous.

Some of the manifestations of anxiety — such as palpitations, excessive sweating, and chronic fatigue — may be symptoms of physical illness. Therefore, for starters, you should consult a doctor to exclude this possibility. In such cases, you are most likely to be prescribed an examination of the heart and thyroid gland, and it is also possible that the doctor will send you to check the state of the vessels of the brain.

Great starter book; a healthy read for all people
Disclaimer: I got this audiobook for free, and am writing an unbiased review.
I am writing this from the viewpoint of someone who does not suffer from bipolar disorder, but I do know people who suffer from it. I do have a sensitive nature though, and can relate to having strong emotional reactions w/o the highs and lows. Ok, on to the book:
The book is a great starter book for the basics on what the disorder is, how to manage the symptoms, and how to deal with basic life struggles while having bipolar disorder. I think it is a valuable read for anyone with the diagnosis. It is even useful for those of us without the disorder - not only to understand those we love, but also because it reinforces positive and healthy mental health activities/wellbeing that is useful for all!
However, this book does not go into significant depth on the disorder, which honestly, is to be expected. IF you are interested in more than just managing symptoms through medication and lifestyle changes, and are curious about whether or not there is a CURE (or as close as can be to one), I would recommend reading up on books dealing with early childhood trauma and "shadow work." Oftentimes, strong reactions (whether from bipolar disorder or not) can be the result of leftover remnants in our brains of stored traumatic memories (this can cause altered chemical and electrical pathways in the brain). Deep psychological work can be done to heal these wounds, resulting in less triggers. This does NOT cure the biological factor, however. I've used these methods in healing my PTSD, and has worked wonders.
NARRATION: 5/5 EXCELLENT. Loved the narrator's voice and soothing tone.
