Wagtail, Virginia, has it all. It's a gorgeous lakeside town with picturesque mountains, old-fashioned inns, friendly pet-loving townsfolk - and the highest murder rate for miles around.

A group of wealthy pet moms has come to Wagtail to pamper their furry friends and to organize a glamorous ball to raise money for animal rescue. At the same time, a pet detective also strolls into town working on a case and winds up offending the luxurious ladies. When he's found dead, Hollie and her faithful four-footed companion, Trixie, must now sniff out clues to catch an upper-crust killer.

Excellent story with lots of twists; listen at 1.1 speed to make narrator less annoying

Excellent storyline. The narrator is annoying at regular speed, BUT if you increase speed to 1.1x she’s much more tolerable except when doing Oma’s voice but Oma speaks very little. Had to figure out something since I had already purchased this book. Definitely worth a listen just increase playback speed for sure!

Feel like I waited forever for this story!

I love this series! But this book seemed to have surpassed the previous ones. I was all the way to the end before I finally figured out what was really going on. I loved it. :-) I adore Holmes and Holly together. And Rose has a new Beau! Naturally, Trixie and Twinkle Toes are the ones who solve the mystery. Loved, loved, loved this story!!!

Narrator😔

I love her books and I love the story. But this new narrator I do not love. She was OK reading the story. I certainly wish the old narrator was doing this book.

Love the books. Miss the first narratorz

All of Krista Davis books are wonderful. And I loved the first Audible books. However, the change is narrator is a poor choice, I believe. No offense to this woman, but, I much prefer the previous one, Jeanie Kanaley.

Not bad, but not good.

Narration was fantastic storyline mediocre with more twists than it needed. Initially I loved this series but this was my one. Wish Amazon would give me more than 14 words

Krista Davis’ Latest Book Is The Best!

I’ve heard Elise narrate on Eva Gates’ Lighthouse Library Mysteries, and this was the best!

Fun but a little light

Big Little Spies by Krista Davis continues the Paws and Claws series set in Wagtail, a resort town dedicated to all things animals. When a pet detective comes to town to try to find a missing German shepherd, he gets murdered. Holly, co-owner and manager of the inn, finds that the ladies of WAG, an animal rescue group associated with Wagtail, all seem to have secrets they are hiding. Further, three older women are busy fighting over one widower, whose wife died only six months earlier. Trixie, Holly’s Jack Russell terrier, and Twinkletoes, Holly’s calico cat, locate the body and serve important roles in catching the killer.

This audiobook was fun, but it felt like perhaps Davis is running out of steam after seven books in this series. It is a very cute series, with a lot of fun in its premise of a pet resort town, but a series can’t rely on the setting for seven books without needing more depth and plot. Now that Holly and Holmes have finally gotten together, a lot of the tension has gone out of the books, and the dynamic between the pair is less interesting or creative than in the previous books, where one or both of them is engaged throughout. It was still highly enjoyable but not as good as some of the previous books.

Elise Arsenault is a fun narrator who does a good job of keeping the book alive. I like her audiobook performances and enjoy the books she narrates.

I give this audiobook four stars.
