Love this couple!

Wow just wow! Nick and Carly are awesome! This is another one of McLean’s amazing books that you don’t want to miss.

Casi McLean totally rocked my world with this amazing segment! Let me just start with the fact that this story is beyond complex and Casi did an amazing job writing it. Amy Deuchler did this book justice in her portrayal of these amazing characters. The tone was perfect and the whole production flowed beautifully.

I am in such awe of these stories! I seriously have no idea how these captivating characters caught my heart so much. If I could journey back through time, I’m pretty sure I would. I love how they all brought an understanding to don’t step on butterflies too. This book just really puts life into perspective and even humanity as a whole. I seriously cannot wait to journey into the next installment. I’m already on the edge of my seat from that tiny tidbit mentioned at the end… that’s right you must read it first to truly understand what I mean. Sorry for teasing you! I hope you enjoy this story in remembrance of 911 and cherish your loved ones.

Beyond the Mist

Beyond the Mist continues Casi McLean’s Lake Lanier Mysteries series. I enjoyed the first book and enjoyed this one even more. I loved Piper from the start and was intrigued with Nick. I had the pleasure of hearing Amy Deuchler’s narration of the book. She did a great job performing this mysterious story.
I am giving Beyond the Mist four and a half stars. I look forward to the third installment from the Lake Lanier Mysteries series.
I received the audio version of this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.

Beyond the Mist

There is a strange phenomenon in Lake Lanier... a portal that somehow makes time travel possible.

Nick goes back in time to try and fix a mistake that has haunted him, but just maybe things will turn out worse than he could’ve expected.

Piper is drawn to Nick and will do whatever it takes to bring him back, but will they be able to make it back?

Casi McLean has written an emotional and thrilling story. The tragic events of 9/11 are respectfully depicted and play an important role in the storyline. Amy Deuchler delivered a wonderful performance. She truly brought out the emotions of the characters.

The narrator makes it unbearable

The narrator makes everyone sound unattractive and unintelligent. She is just awful. I couldn’t even finish the book. I made it through most of it just trying to see if it got better because I love Lake Lanier dtories.. but I just didn’t care about what happens.

Confusing

Perhaps this was the wrong genre; but the story was confusing and almost impossible to follow.

Great narration for this time travel story

CW: this book is centered around the events of 911. If this is a topic that you are sensitive to, I do not recommend this book.

Beyond the Mist: Lake Lanier Mysteries main premise is time travel. A mysterious lake that opens a portal to other times has pulled in a victim. Finding out about time travel, Nick figured out a way to go back to the week before 9/11 to try to save his then-girlfriend. Unfortunately, Nick will inevitably trigger the Butterfly Effect by changing the timeline, so the scientists send Piper, his current time sudden love interest, to being him back and make sure he doesn’t change anything.

This is book 2 of the series and I unfortunately didn’t read book 1, so I had to listen to the first 2 chapters a few times before I understood what was possibly going on. This is sort of how I spent a lot of the book and I’m not sure if it was the writing or that I just kept losing interest.

Narrator Amy Deuchler did a great job. I’ve listened to a few of the books she’s read and I’ve never been dissatisfied with her style. Her voice is rich and chromatic.

I received this book from the author, narrator, or publisher in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Book 2 in Time Travel Romance

Can saving the life of a single person alter the future so dramatically? That is the question that Beyond the Mist asks- can a man desperate to escape the trauma of his past cause irrevocable changes to the future of his friends by saving the life of a woman from his past- a woman who has more secrets than Nick knows? And the girl who loves him in the present will do whatever she can do to bring him home alive without damaging the world further.

Book 2 literally picks up where book 1 ends, with Lacey recuperating in the hospital after getting back from her time travel jaunt and 3 day coma and all her friends and family coming to terms with what really happened- and that time travel is for realsies. I highly recommend that you read the first book in the series Beneath the Lake before Beyond the Mist because you will be 100% lost without.

I was really confused as to Nick's motivation- he meets Piper and feels an intense overwhelming connection to her thinking she might be his soulmate which in turn spurs him to go back to 2001 and save his girlfriend Carly from dying during the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center (how would saving your old pregnant girlfriend mean you get to be together with your soulmate?). And on top of that, he feels obligated to Lacey and Rob- so he takes advantage of his friends kindness and money to go back in time for his own selfish reasons and alter the past for his own gain, which in turn may hurt the future. Yeah, I don't understand him at all (I am not Team Nick, in case you didn't pick that up). I liked the idea of him going back in time (...and maybe elsewhere in time...) and all the drama around the terrorist attack, but I am not getting Nick as a person- he is suppose to be smart, yet he continually makes strange errors and I wanted to shake him.

I will say that Piper is such a kind competent person, with a big heart and a moral compass that always points true. Hands down, she was my favorite character in the story and I am so glad that she got the chance to have a chance to be a main character and have her story told. I hope there is more to come and that she will be a part of it.

The love that Piper and Nick experience for each other is intense and easily transmitted though the pages- the reader can feel the bond the two formed from the short time they were together. While there was a lot of mystery, science fiction, and danger that made up the plot of the book, the underlying core of the story is the romance and connection between Piper and Nick.

The narrator did a good job of creating voices and distinct character for each person in the story. She enunciated clearly and I was able to lose myself in her reading. I will admit that I have gotten in the habit of listening to my audiobooks not at normal speed and I listened to this one at 1.5x the speed (maybe I would not have not enjoyed the audiobook at a slower narration speed?). I would listen to Amy bring more stories to life in the future.

Beyond the Mist was full of action, time travel, and tons of twists. I found that I actually liked this story more than the first book just since it kept me guessing and on my toes. I am interested to see what will happen next in this time travel world. Each book adds more character to get invested in and I am curious to see who will show next.

A romp through time

This is my first book by Casi McLean even though it is the 2nd book in the Lake Lanier Mysteries Series. I will be checking out book one very soon. This can be read as a stand alone, but you do have to really pay attention at first until you get used to which time line each person is from. For instance Nick's father was born in 1921, his mother in 1983, they bump into Nick when he is 30 years old. I do want book one to get more of a the back story though, some things would make a lot more sense. Casi has done a really good job with this book. It is a Time Travel Novel. Casi has brought September 11, 2001 back to our memories. She is very respectful to the victims of 9/11

Nick Cramer has always blamed himself for his girlfriend Carlie dying in the 9/11 attacks. Then he finds a way to travel back in time to save Carlie. Their is secret portal hidden beneath Atlanta’s Lake Lanier. Nick knows he should not mess with the time line of events in the past or the future but with a big heart and also a broken heart he still wants to save Carlie.

Nick meets Piper Taylor and knows there is something special between them, but his guilt over Carlie urges him on.

Piper must avoid the terrorism in 2001, find Nick, and get them back to their correct time before before Nick makes any changes that will put a rip in time and they become lost in time forever.

Beyond the mist

This book got WAY too confusing for me. Going back to Sept 7,2001 to try to save a love causes a lot more turmoil....and me a headache.Amy Deuchler was good as a narrator. Some of her voices made me cringe though.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'

Enjoy the first of this series then dive in . . .

Sci-fi Time Traveling Mystery Romance . . . Piper and Nick have that chance meeting that sends them both a jolt of realization. This journey for the two of them starts off well in good in the present time but slips to the past with good intentions and not so good possible outcomes. Nick had once loved and lost and still held on to those tragic results. He now have another chance at love and finds that he wants to amend the past with the present. Not quite seeing straight or fully grasping the consequences of his decision. He goes head first in to the waters of Lake Lanier and slips further Beyond the Mist.

There was much here. The writing was good. The characters were rich and flawed. The imagery was vivid. The heavy subject of 9/11 and the events that took place on that day will forever be a subject that needs to be handled in the right way when approaching it. There will always be someone that finds offense in the events of that day. There will be those that want very much to change that day, but we have to understand it was the past and even the simplest change to that day could have ramifications that could make things a 100x worse. I found that the way in which Casi approached the events was constructed well. She gave a different view. She showed that events of the world happen and it could have a lasting effect on you but its you that makes the choice to move forward with you life. Going back and changing those events could in fact change everything that followed.

I enjoyed watching how Piper and Nick navigated the events of their present and then once they slip in to the past. There was suspense, action, drama, and intensity. But most of all they had each other and the love they were building with each other.

Narrator Amy Deuchler did justice to this piece. She had the diction, clarity, and pacing down. The audio ran smooth. I could detect no lengthy pauses, gaps and no hiccups. I enjoyed it more after the feel the narrator out phase and was able to kick up the speed. This provided me with more like a picture playing in my head.
