This book is so good! So compassionate towards the kids, like all parenting books should be.

Amazing!

I love this book! I love the examples of traditional views next to the new view. I was able to see from my own childhood the times my parents had used traditional parenting and remember feeling more out of control. I have been using the new ways with my daughter and they have been working amazingly well. She feels better, I feel better!

EVERY parent needs to read this book! Especially the parents of foster and adopted kids.

VERY helpful to understand kids/adults that have come through hard circumstances

I loved chapter 5 for parents. It helped me to understand where some of my struggles with my child originated from. and I loved the practical true life stories that "showed" the principles taught...

Great way to re-look at attachment

Love this info and the different and less oppositional approach to attachment intervention. Great book. Also consider "The boy who was raised as a dog" by David Perry.

Good Information. Seems sound.

This is a more logical approach to helping RAD kids. I will be doing more research and practicing with patients. Reader had difficulty with some vocabulary but was okay.

One AHA moment after another.

Heather explained why everything we were doing "for" our son wasn't working. We were actually doing it TO him. We have fully embraced your practice and are seeing good results.

I wish there were more examples. Quite honestly, they help to prepare yourself for your next "challenge". Working through it ahead of time has been helpful to stay calm and connected.

This book not only offered amazing insight into my personal background, it has changed how I view, interact with, and respond to the children i work with who are in states custody. A MUST MUST MUST READ!

Very good book

Very helpful book. A bit dry at parts, but overall interesting and logical ideas. We're about to adopt and I believe this will help us a ton.

Awesome!

This book was written and narrated as if I was being talked to personally. I've read a ton of parenting books on parenting difficult children...but this one spoke about MY kid...the one who doesn't fit traditional modes. If you have an adopted child, or a child with a background of abuse and trauma, this book is for you!
