Publisher's summary

The love story of a witch who saves the world and the vampire who saves him.

As the battle rages around him, Laurence stops to witness a witch casting a powerful magical arc. Werewolves race past, running for cover, but Laurence can't tear his gaze from the vulnerable spellcaster.

When Remy is injured, he doesn't expect a vampire to come to his rescue. What is he to Laurence if not dinner? But Laurence carries him to safety, ensures he gets treatment, and protects him from a pack of angry werewolves.

No one knows how long the magical arc will hold. Frightened by what might happen when it falls, Remy needs to escape the frontlines and find a safe haven before his own people hunt him down for treason.

As sparks fly between the unlikely pair, can they find solace in love, or will the supernatural war claim two more victims?

Good story, bad narration

The narration sort of ruined it for me. The story was good but the high pitched voice was like listening to a 12 year old telling the story. Sort of weird.

Awesome story!

I love Remy and Lawrence. Remy is so clingy but I love him anyway. He's adorable and he's a badass! I love the ending, the way everything works out.
James Paris does really well with this.

Didn’t do it for me

My nice, positive review: this was just not for me. I really wanted to like it; all the right elements were there, but unfortunately it just didn’t hit it for me.

The reasons that are pretty spoilery: I honestly didn’t even know what this huge war was about until a little info drop like 70ish% through (hard to say cause audio), so it all just felt kinda pointless? Like you can’t feel that gut instinct that their side is the right one if you don’t even know why it’s happening.

It didn’t seem like either MC’s had a personality, other than “the older, somewhat wiser vampire” and “the inexperienced (dumbass) and curious kid apparently trying to do the right thing”.

I just knew when Remy was like “I can’t use my magic because they can track me with it” there would eventually be that scene that he HAS to. What I didn’t realize is that we wouldn’t REALLY get that scene, just the aftermath, and up until that scene we would get near constant reasons he should use his magic (like starting a fire, or skinning a rabbit, or changing his clothes, or…). Nor did a realize the vampire who’s actually not that crazy old in comparison would be like a nagging mother, constantly making sure he was eating, sleeping, keeping up his strength.

By the end, I was pulling out my hair and actually hoping for a complete massacre.
